Sample authentic Thai dishes prepared by Thai chef Thanathorn Krobsuay of the JW Marriott Bangkok. The menu includes tom yam goong soup (spicy prawn soup with lemongrass and galangal) and som tum (spicy green papaya salad) for starters. Main dishes include thod mun pla (Thai fish cakes with pickled cucumber); larb gai (minced chicken salad with mint and ground rice); pad Thai (stir-fried noodle with seafood). Cap the meal with kanom Thai ruam (Thai royal desserts). There will be a free cooking class on Aug. 12 at 2:30 p.m. Diners who avail of the Flavors of Thailand buffet also get a chance to win a pair of roundtrip tickets to Thailand courtesy of Thai Airways and TAT. The package includes a three-night stay with breakfast at the Renaissance Koh Samui Resort and Spa Thailand. The Flavors of Thailand is available for lunch and dinner at P1,350 net for adults and P675 net for children. Makati Shangri-La’s executive pastry chef Guillaume Bonnety prepares a five-course dessert dinner paired with classic wines at Red until July 31. The all-dessert dinner includes amuse bouche of avocado salsa with milk jam and spiced arlette, tomato confit with balsamic emulsion, strawberry salpicon with black pepper and candied olive ice cream. Milder but equally luscious is fig and apple tarte tatin, salted caramel with carrot-coriander juice, among others.

Swiss treats at Mandarin Oriental’s Paseo Uno

Paseo Uno, Mandarin Oriental, Manila’s all-day dining restaurant, celebrates Swiss National Day with a weeklong music and food fete from July 30 to Aug. 1. The Adlerspitz Buebä performs at the food fest. Diners can also enjoy dishes prepared by guest chef Thomas Wenger such as a raclette station; quiches in assorted flavors such as smoked salmon, cheese and bacon and onion; stuffed pork belly in white wine sauce; roesti (a Swiss potato dish); fleischvoegel (beef roll with a savory filling); baked ham in sourdough; and assorted cheeses and cold cuts, among others. Tender Bob’s serves USDA prime ribeye that is buttery and melts in the mouth. The first step to a memorable steak, according to Bambi Meer, general manager of Tender Bob’s, begins in the chiller where frozen prime cuts are thawed. At Tender Bob’s tender, juicy and flavorful steak starts at P560. Value is further enhanced by the side dishes like vegetables, and a choice of three rice sidings or one of three potato dishes.
