MANILA, Philippines — Award-winning actress Dolly de Leon briefly reflected on the role of women like her after being recognized as one of PeopleAsia's Women of Style and Substance this year.

Dolly was unable to attend the awards ceremony last October 10 in Fairmont Makati as she is currently in the United States promoting her latest film "A Very Good Girl" with Kathryn Bernardo.

Instead, the actress sent a short video to serve as an acceptance speech, starting off by thanking PeopleAsia for recognizing a career woman such as herself.

"Having worked as an actor for so many years where my efforts are mostly not recognized, for you to be able to include me in a very prestigious list... really means a lot especially in this day and age where women's efforts are not given that much importance," Dolly said.

Among this year's winners with Dolly include fellow actress Sharon Cuneta, volleyball star Alyssa Valdez, Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Dee, and MediaQuest President and Chief Executive Officer Jane Jimenez-Basas.

"It matters to us that you're giving us this time to shine, and for us to show the world that women matter, our lives matter, and what we contribute matters a lot," Dolly ended.

"A Very Good Girl" recently broke the P100-million mark at the box office as it entered its third week in cinemas. — Video by Deni Bernardo
