Sun protection is the best defense against premature skin aging
STYLE S.O.S. - Lucy Torres-Gomez, Rissa M. Trillo, Tingting Cojuangco () - February 29, 2012 - 12:00am

Dear Rissa,

I am religious in caring for my face and follow a good skin care regimen. It was only recently that I noticed that the skin on my body does not look “as young.” My skin tone is not even and abused areas like hands and feet look a bit wrinkly. Please help me.

Leah M.

Indeed, most women care for their face and often neglect their body. The best defense to premature skin aging and uneven skin tone is to use sun protection every single day. I admit I used to step out of the house without any sun block, but now I’ve made it a point to protect my skin with SPF — even on a cloudy day. The sticky feeling is no longer an excuse because there are countless non-sticky products with SPF today. Try Nivea Sun Whitening SPF50 PA++ (available in leading supermarkets and department stores). Apart from the high SPF, it offers wide spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays. You’ll like this because it is non-sticky, but multi-tasks as a moisturizer and provides whitening action to pigmented skin tone. What makes it the perfect sun protection product for summer is it boasts immediate protection  — unlike other sun blocks, there’s no need to wait 20 minutes for it to work! Don’t forget to apply to areas like the hands, feet, and toes. Not only are they the most abused body parts, they’re also one of the first to show aging!

The truth about ‘The falsies’

Dear Lucy,

Eyes, eyes, baby: Maybelline’s The Falsies really opens up the eyes and exaggerates them beautifully.

I am not on Twitter, but my friend said you were raving about mascara that makes lashes look so full and alive you may want to talk to them! Share the brand please?

Also, what do I buy when it is a choice between black and nude pumps?

Straight cut or boot cut denims? What is the perfect length for both heels and flats?

Raya

I love Maybelline’s The Falsies! I think it is my favorite so far. It really opens up the eyes and, true to its name, exaggerates them beautifully. Go buy the tube in multiples!

Between black and nude, if the nude pumps you chanced upon are in patent leather, don’t let them go. You can always find nice black pumps, but nude pumps don’t come by too often. They make the legs look gorgeous and endless!

Boot cut is always the more forgiving and flattering cut. Re the length of pants, unless they are skinny pants, then I am afraid there is no single length that will work for both killer heels and flats. That is why if you find a fit you absolutely love, buy two of it, one to wear with heels and the other for flats or sandals.

Not just a housewife

Dear Ms. Tinting,

I’m a housewife for 45 years.  I’ve been careful never to say I’m just a housewife, but it seems many say “just” a housewife.  How do I counter this “justs”?

Terry

I dislike the word “just.”  It demeans a woman’s, mom’s, wife’s efforts and sacrifices.  Hold your head high when you say housewife and if a stare answers you, return back the stare.  Be proud of being a homemaker.  It makes you as a mom prepare young citizens to be ideal leaders in the future.  As a wife, you keep your husband from straying, starving, and looking unkempt. And that goes for the children, too.
