MANILA, Philippines — Tickets for Jamie Lloyd's reimagining of "Romeo & Juliet" starring Tom Holland in his West End return sold out in under two hours, leading to brewing rumors of a Broadway run down the line.

British newspaper The Mirror reported that after finishing its 12-week run  beginning May 11 at the Duke of York’s Theatre, "Romeo & Juliet" will then transfer to Broadway.

"'Romeo & Juliet' will head to Broadway after its London run, with details to be announced in due course," a source tole The Mirror. "While director Jamie Lloyd has made a name for his minimalist adaptations of classic texts, the headline grabber for what is essentially yet another production of 'Romeo & Juliet' is undoubtedly its leading man."

This version of "Romeo & Juliet" is billed by Lloyd's eponymous theater company as a "pulsating new vision of Shakespeare's immortal tale of wordsmiths, rhymers, lovers and fighters."

Holland will portray Romeo in what will be his first stage performance since his debut as the titular character in "Billy Elliot the Musical," which he performed on the West End over a decade ago after also playing Billy's best friend Michael Caffrey.

Starring opposite Holland is Francesca Amewudah-Rivers, making her West End debut. However, her cast announcement led to widespread racial abuse which was immensely slammed by the show's producers.

If the transfer rumors are indeed true, it will mark Holland and Amewudah-Rivers' Broadway debut.

Lloyd has worked with several Marvel actors on his minamalist and expressionist productions in the past, including couple Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton for "Betrayal," Emilia Clarke for "The Seagull," and James McAvoy for "Cyrano de Bergerac."

Most recently, Lloyd's Broadway revival of "A Doll's House," starring other Marvel stars Jessica Chastain and Arian Moayed, was nominated for six Tony awards, including Best Rival of a Play and Best Direction of a Play.

Apart from his ongoing role as Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Holland is known for his roles in "Uncharted," "Onward," "Cherry," "In the Heart of the Sea," "The Devil All the Time," and most recently the series "The Crowded Room."
