Alliance Française presents Manuel D. Baldemor’s ‘Mosaïque’

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Manuel D. Baldemor is a Filipino artist, painter, sculptor, printmaker, writer and book illustrator born in 1947 in Paete, Laguna, Philippines, a place renowned for woodcarvers. Growing up in these surroundings and influenced by the local art tradition, he cultivates his art exploring different mediums as well as wandering through the Philippines and various countries. He has held numerous solo exhibitions in museums and galleries in the Philippines and other parts of the globe. He was the Philippine Representative to the XIV Internationale Art Exhibition, Paris Sud, France in 1973.

Though the artist is impressed by Paris’ otherworldly charm in the arrogance of its monuments, grand boulevards, and art museums, which can be found throughout the city, he admits that France is more than Paris. From the city, he travelled to progress further towards the beauty of the countrysides and paint accordingly. In this exhibition, he captures the fields of gold in Provence, quaint village scenes like market days, dawn at medieval Carcassonne, a pleasant afternoon at Saint Tropez, a sunny Sunday morning on the seaside town of Menton, the imposing heritage of historic Avignon.

Since then, Manny has had three solo art exhibitions at the Galerie de l’Alliance Française de Manille, two solo art shows at the UNESCO Paris, two solo exhibitions in Paris in cooperation with Embassy of the Philippines in France.

Manuel D. Baldemor opens his latest exhibit “Mosaïque” at the Alliance Française de Manille, coinciding with the relaunch of the Alliance Française Art Gallery.

Exhibit runs until Mar. 31. For details, contact Sabrina Durand, Alliance Française de Manille communication and cultural coordinator, at 895-7585, or e-mail sabrina@alliance.ph.
