New set of 2013 Japanese government scholars off to Japan

MANILA, Philippines - The Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC) of the Embassy of Japan, in cooperation with the Philippine Association of Japanese government scholars (PhilaJames Inc.) recently held a pre-departure orientation for the 2013 Japanese government scholars at the JICC Multi-Purpose Hall of the Embassy of Japan. Joining the roster of scholars are 18 students under the Research category, one student under the Japanese Studies category, 12 students under the Teacher Training category and seven students under the Young Leader’s Program. The scholars are scheduled to leave this October to pursue further studies in various Japanese universities. 

Minister Setsuo Ohmori, head of chancery of the Embassy of Japan graced the pre-departure orientation to congratulate the 28 students who will be the latest addition to the roster of the Japanese government scholars. JICC researcher/adviser Shinichiro Kato was also present to welcome both scholars and PhilaJames alumni alike. Three PhilaJames alumni shared their experiences and offered some pieces of advice to the new scholars for their upcoming studies in Japan.

Since 1954, the Japanese government scholarship has been supporting foreign nationals to study in Japan for advancement of education and the promotion of mutual understanding. Since its implementation more than 50 years ago, there have been about 3,000 Filipino recipients of this scholarship. All Japanese government scholarship programs are offered yearly.
