Stories of greed, power grabbing, betrayal, envy & forgiveness

UNDER YOUR SKIN - Grace Carole Beltran MD - The Philippine Star

Holding on to anger, resentment and hurt only gives you ugly skin, hair fall, tense muscles and headaches. So learn to forgive.

Have you ever been in a situation where everything you had was taken away from you? Well, it could happen.

Frightening as it may be, you can face it alone or if you are lucky, you’ll have someone who will comfort you throughout your ordeal.

Take, for example, patient JE. She was the vice president of a very successful firm, which she served unconditionally for five years. But in just a blink of an eye, the daughter of the board member replaced her. Her agony was aggravated by the fact that she was also eliminated as the head of a promising committee.

Then there’s the story of Mr. R. He and his wife were working for the same company, whose president was captivated by Mr. R’s charming and pretty wife. She became the boss’s mistress.

Poor Mr. R: he lost his wife to a lustful president and got expelled from that company.  Now Mr. R’s wife is enjoying the privileges of being a mistress: the respect of people out of fear, a position she probably would never have landed if she had stuck with Mr. R and, of course, the luxuries of living with a rich and powerful man.

In a completely different case, an extraordinary lady who has good communication skills worked at a PR firm. Her coworkers admired her for her guts and talent, but when she failed to deliver once, her boss scolded her in front of so many people. She resigned due to humiliation. But as the saying goes, when one door closes, another one opens.

Then there are stories of exploitation. Businessman Mr. PJ was heartbroken when he discovered that the people he trusted to help run his company were siphoning millions from it.

And lastly, the story of my doctor friend SR, who has been working in a hospital for 26 years and is friends with the head of their department (PL), whom she also thought was a friend.

When SR was called by the ethics committee for a minor offense, SR was confident that PL would be there to defend her. But instead, PL incriminated her even more by adding another offense so that they would have a more valid reason to expel SR.  Envy, maybe?  But SR could not understand why she would be envious as she is already rich and was appointed (not elected) as head.

I am sharing these real-life situations to share with readers that these kinds of problems could affect not only our health but also our lives.

The death of a loved one, an accident, corporate wars, power grabbing, infidelity, envy, jealousy, betrayal and destruction of lives could leave us sad and angry.

For me, there is only one sure thing in this ever-changing world of ours: God’s unremitting love for us.

God is just and his wrath is coming. Jesus sees the end from the beginning. In every difficulty, He has His way prepared to bring relief. And, as my mother always tells me, never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God. Trust in the Lord with all your heart.  Do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do and He will show you which path to take.

God will not permit any troubles to come upon any of us, unless He has a specific plan by which a great blessing can come out of the difficulty.  In this season of Lent, let’s find forgiveness in our hearts for those who have caused us hurt and injury.

Holding on to anger, resentment and hurt only gives you ugly skin, hair fall, tense muscles, headaches, a sore jaw from clenching your teeth and many more. So learn to forgive.

As the saying goes, “With God beside you, who can be against you”??
