MANILA, Philippines — The island of Boracay was again recognized as one of the world’s favorite islands for this year, according to a survey by United States-based travel website Travel+Leisure.

The popular island destination, known for its white sand, water activities and vibrant nightlife, ranked 10th out of 25 islands around the world for 2023 with a score of 92.94.

The website wrote in its description that Boracay “still manages to stand apart from the rest” of the Philippines’ 7,641 islands.

“The tiny island – just 4.5 miles long – is known as ‘the island that never sleeps’ for its parties and nightlife,” it said.

A reader of Travel+Leisure also described Boracay as “the best leisure vacation destination,” it added.

Topping the website’s list of the world’s favorite islands are Great Barrier Reef Islands in Australia.

Also included are Maldives, Bali in Indonesia, Madeira in Portugal, Phuket in Thailand, Skye and the Hebrides in Scotland, Koh Samui in Thailand, Dominica, Langkawi in Malaysia, Paros in Greece, Fiji, Golden Isles in Georgia, Moorea in French Polynesia, Zanzibar in Tanzania, Seychelles, Azores in Portugal, Bora-Bora in French Polynesia, Rhodes and the Dodecanes in Greece, Mackinac Island in Michigan, Galapagos Island in Ecuador, Hvar and the Dalmatian Islands in Croatia, Sicily in Italy, Anguilla and Santorini in Greece.

Travel+Leisure’s survey interviewed 165,000 readers covering the following criteria: natural attractions/beaches, activities/sights, restaurants/food, people/friendliness and value.

Last year, the same website also hailed Boracay as the 9th best island in the world and the 4th best island in Asia.

The municipal tourism office of Malay town in Aklan, which hosts Boracay, posted the latest accolade on its Facebook page and called it a “remarkable achievement.”
