MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV on Sunday criticized members of the House of Representatives justice committee for its issuance of a show cause order on Sen. Leila De Lima after they disrespected her.

Trillanes said the lawmakers “slut-shamed” De Lima when they asked irrelevant questions to the lady senator’s former driver-bodyguard and lover, Ronnie Dayan. For him, a show cause order is unnecessary because they already exposed the senator in their probe.

“Sila lang (lawmakers) ang natuwa. Whether supporter ka o hindi, hindi maganda iyon,” Trillanes said in a radio interview describing the line of questioning of some solons to Dayan.

“Pinahiya ninyo na, binastos ninyo na si Senator De Lima, ano pa ba gusto ninyo? Hanggang saan pa ba gustong dalhin ang pambabastos sa kanya?” he asked.

Vice President Leni Robredo also called out the behavior of the lawmakers during the public inquiry on Thursday into the drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison, saying they feasted on the love affair of De Lima and Dayan and not on the real objective of the probe. She said solons should set an example to the public.

Some members of the House of Representatives want De Lima sanctioned for allegedly obstructing a congressional investigation into the illegal drug trade at the New Bilibid Prison by preventing Dayan to testify before the House probe.

Trillanes said that the Senate is not subjected to the rules of the House of Representatives. Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III likewise said that the House cannot dictate on the Senate.

Pimentel and other senators also slammed their House colleagues for pressing to unseat De Lima. The Senate president described the calls from solons to cite De Lima in contempt and remove her as “premature.”

Trillanes said the House probe into the illegal drug trade inside the penitentiary was not able to prove anything but only tangled various issues. He also criticized Dayan and De Lima’s accuser, self-confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa’s conflicting testimonies.

“Kaya sila magkaiba dahil hindi naman totoo (ang paratang),” Trillanes said in a radio interview.
