Gordon mum on endorsing presidential bet

MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Red Cross Chair Richard "Dick" Gordon on Thursday insisted that he will not endorse a presidential candidate in the 2016 national elections.

Gordon is a guest senatorial candidate of Vice President Jejomar Binay's United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) and Sen. Grace Poe's Partido Galing at Puso. He added that he might also be a guest candidate in another senatorial ticket.

"I'm not endorsing anybody. I've been invited to both and I think I'm going to be invited to a third one mainly because people think that I have enough experience in the Senate," Gordon told Philstar.com in an interview.

In his speech during Poe and Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero's announcement of their senatorial ticket, Gordon said that he will push for the increase of wages for teachers, nurses and doctors.

Gordon boasted of having created around 200,000 jobs in the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority when he was the chair.

He reminded the public to vote for candidates who have the ability to serve in the government.

"Sapagkat tayo (ay) pumipili ng pinakamagaling na kandidato dapat, hindi yung pinaka-popular o yung may pera. Dapat iniisip natin 'yong kandidato natin, hindi yung mananalo ngunit 'yong may kakayahan," Gordon said in his speech.

Gordon earlier claimed that a few members of the Liberal Party and UNA approached him to file a disqualification case against Poe.

"I'm not interested in getting it from the backdoor. I want to make sure that the people will realize that if they want to have a country where they're going to have real leaders, they have to have honest to goodness clean, fair elections," Gordon said in an interview with ANC's Headstart last week.
