MANILA, Philippines - Iglesia ni Cristo’s Unlad Kabuhayan recently held a three-day trade summit in Pasay City that offered thousands of jobs as well as livelihood and entrepreneurship seminars aimed at helping the poor.

The event, with the theme “Let’s fight poverty now,” kicked off last Friday and ended Sunday at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia grounds.

Vice President Jejomar Binay was guest speaker.

He lauded the INC for holding the biggest trade exhibit and job fair to help ease poverty.

“Fighting poverty should not be left to the government alone,” said one of the Unlad Kabuhayan organizers.

The INC believes in empowering the people by providing them opportunities for livelihood and skills development, said Gigi Lapira, a board member of Unlad Kabuhayan.

Established in 2012, Unlad Kabuhayan is a non-government organization composed of INC brethren in the field of business development.

More than 10,000 jobs were available during the three-day event participated in by various companies. The job fair was held in cooperation with JobsDB, a firm specializing in job search and posting.

INC general evangelist Bro. Bienvenido Santiago read a message from executive minister Eduardo Manalo at the summit’s opening.

The organizers featured 100 success stories of Unlad Kabuhayan scholars during the summit.
