MANILA, Philippines — The “Macho” group Masculados is hoping to mount a concert following the release of their comeback single, Saging, under Universal Records Philippines.

Masculados released their self-titled debut album in 2003 under Universal Records Philippines. Over the years, the group underwent several changes before making a comeback last year after re-signing with the label.

Group leader Enrico Mofar clarified during the launch of their new single that they never really left the music scene.

“Nawala lang po siguro kami siguro sa TV, sa mga game show, but tuloy po pa rin yung aming mga shows, events in the province and fiestas. The group is still there,” he said.

Richard Yumul added that during their hiatus from mainstream events, they focused on out-of-town shows and performances abroad. Now that they are back, the group is asking fans for their support for their latest track.

Now in their 30s and 40s, the all-male dance group is composed of Richard Yumul, 43; David Karell, 34; Robin Robel, 45; Enrico Mofar, 48; Orlando Sol, 41; and Nico Cordova, 35.

“For 19 years, we were gone from Universal Records. Now, we’re finally back. We have returned to our home — the Universal Records family,” Orlando Sol expressed.

He also noted how the group has evolved over the years. “We became more solid. Parang nag-iba yung energy lalo, mas lalong tumaas at nag-evolve yung Masculados. Kung nakita niyo po, sinabayan po namin yung generation ngayon. So, yun po yung gusto naming i-project. We want to show na kaya pa rin namin makipagsabayan kahit sa mga young generation.”

Now in their 30s and 40s, the all-male dance group — composed of Richard, 43; David Karell, 34; Robin Robel, 45; Enrico, 48; Orlando, 41; and Nico Cordova, 35 — proved that they still have what it takes to dance, sing and perform. Robin and Enrico have been with the group since its formation in early 2000s, while the other members joined later.

During the media launch, the group showcased their energy as they performed their novelty songs Saging, Jumbo Hotdog and Sana Mama, while also flexing their toned physiques and proving that age has not slowed down the Masculados.

The other group members also expressed their heartfelt gratitude to their music label for welcoming them back and giving them another opportunity to make music together.

Robin also teased that their upcoming album will feature original songs, with more tracks set to be released in the coming months.

Universal Records managing director Kathleen Dy-Go revealed that Masculados has a long-term contract with the label and appealed to fans to continue supporting the group as they enter what she described as their “new-gen generation.”

The group, which is managed by GLXY Talent Management, is also optimistic about staging their own concert in the future.

“Sure, magkakaroon po kami niyan,” Enrico assured fans. “But we have to plan it out with the record.”

“It will be a long preparation, pero ‘yun talaga yung itutuloy namin, na magkaroon din ng concert. Marami nang reunion concerts na mga grupo, mga dating grupo, and I’m sure na magkakaroon din kami,” added Robin.

Orlando chimed in, saying that their concert plans could extend beyond the Philippines, with the group hoping to perform for their international fans as well.

“We will do concerts not only in the Philippines but also in different parts of the globe,” he said.

Moreover, Masculados believed that Saging is the perfect choice for their comeback single, especially now that they are in their “gym era.”

“Actually, maraming pinagdaanan, grabe yung proseso. Maraming pinasa (na songs), it took seven months. Ang daming binaril ni Ma’am Kat,” shared Orlando. “We had to select the right choice, sinala lahat. We just trusted the process and the record label.”

The group also made sure to prepare physically for their comeback.

“We also prepared for it. Nagpapayat din kaming lahat. ‘Yun po yung bilin sa amin. We had to tone down,” Orlando added.

For David, Saging also “suits the group” because of their fitness-focused lifestyle. “Because we work out. It’s our pre-workout thing,” he said, adding that they even mix bananas into their whey protein shake.

Enrico, on the other hand, pointed out that bananas are a favorite among Filipinos, whether as dessert or a merienda staple. “After work out, hinahalo po namin yan sa aming whey protein,” he continued.

“Also, to complete the meal. For a meal to be complete, there should be dessert. So, isama na natin ‘to after ‘Jumbo Hotdog,’” shared Richard.

Summing up their choice of single and fitness journey, Orlando said, “We have to be health conscious kaya saging naman.”
