Prayers really work: Ruffa Gutierrez gives health update on father Eddie

MANILA, Philippines — Ruffa Gutierrez has given the latest update on her father Eddie Gutierrez, who went through a medical procedure in Singapore.
Ruffa and her mom Annabelle Rama, plus other family members, were there to personally support and accompany the 83-year-old screen icon for more than a week.
“My dad is actually feeling, feeling so much better. Maraming, maraming salamat sa lahat pong nagdasal para sa kanya. Prayers, I can say, really work. So natutuwa po ako talaga and I’m very happy that I was able to spend more time with my dad,” the actress told select press when she attended the Luxe Thanksgiving Party Year 4 to show her support for the beauty and wellness company’s founder and CEO, Anna Magkawas.
Ruffa said that they are scheduled to return to Singapore in April for continuous treatment.
Recovery, she also noted, requires both rest and some therapy.
“Rest and exercise as well. So he also needs to do water therapy,” she added.
“Kailangan prayers pa rin talaga para ‘di bumalik ang sakit.”
The former beauty queen acknowledged that news of her father’s health condition drew concern not just within the family, but also from friends and supporters. One thing she promised herself this year was to devote more time to her parents.
“Of course, everyone got worried. And you know, Daddy is already 83 years old. So what I really want to do this year is… I’ll spend more time, not only with my dad pero with my mom as well.”
Meanwhile, Ruffa is also preparing for a major family milestone, that is her eldest daughter Lorin’s college graduation in Los Angeles in May.
She could not hide her happiness as she shared, “Yes, I’m very happy because she’s already graduating. So as a mom, talagang tuwang-tuwa ako. And, isa nalang ang paparaalin ko, si Venice nalang.”
Lorin is finishing advertising and integrated marketing, while younger daughter Venice is taking up political science, also in the US.
Ruffa stressed that the academic paths were her daughters’ own choices. “Sila talagang dapat pumili because I mean that’s what they are going to study in the future.”
After graduation, Lorin is expected to split her time between the US and the Philippines.
On a more personal note, Ruffa laughed off questions about the state of her love life.
“Huwag muna, wala munang time for love life,” she was quick to say.
Asked if there are admirers making any effort, she quipped: “Marami.”
But for now, “tama na yung inspiration. Tawag-tawag. Text, text.”
Ruffa also couldn’t escape questions about the pictures she shared of what she described in a Facebook post as a “surprise, intimate birthday dinner at The Peninsula Manila, lovingly organized by Barbie for Chard and Mond.”
Barbie Imperial is the girlfriend of Ruffa’s younger brother Richard Gutierrez, who celebrated his 42nd birthday with twin brother Raymond last Jan. 21.
She praised Barbie: “Mabait siya sa akin. I’m very excited that she’s the new leading lady of Chard.”
She was referring to “Blood vs Duty,” Richard’s upcoming primetime series (with Gerald Anderson and Bela Padilla), where he will work for the first time with his real-life girlfriend.
Ruffa stressed that contrary to the “noise outside,” all is well between Barbie and her mom Annabelle.
She further said of Barbie, “Masarap siya magluto… Oo (she cooks for Richard), pati kami,” adding in jest, “sana walang gayuma hahaha!”
