Susan & Amalia are Cover Girls

In 1967, the reigning movie queens Susan Roces and Amalia Fuentes shared stellar billing in Cover Girls. It was hyped ‘pinakamalaking pelikula ng taon’ as after a long while, Susan and Amalia were paired on the big screen.

They were first seen together years back in movies produced by their home studio, Sampaguita. Cover Girls was produced by Jafere Productions, an independent film company.

Off-cam, Susan is the godmother of Amalia’s only daughter, Liezl Muhlach Sumilang (Mrs. Albert Martinez).

In the ’60s, fans were either Susanians or Amalians, some of whom, to date, remain loyal to their idols.

There are reports that ABS-CBN plans to cast Susan and Amalia in a teleserye.

Susan remains active on television, while Amalia opted to lie low. However, Elwood Perez has persuaded Amalia to come out of retirement and star in an indie, Proserpina, where she plays a writer suffering from mental block. — RKC
