Fairy-tale wedding caps ‘Lord-designed’ romance

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo - The Philippine Star

Everything went as planned.

Said the bride, 2011 Miss Universe 3rd runner-up Shamcey Supsup, “The Lord designed my love story because He made it perfect.”

Yesterday afternoon at around 1:30, Shamcey and print model/businessman Lloyd Lee sealed their two-year romance with a kiss at the conclusion of their wedding at the UP Church of the Risen Lord. The ecumenical rites were witnessed by the couple’s parents (Timoteo and Marcy Supsup, and Paul and Virginia Lee) and relatives, and close friends, with the entourage led by principal sponsor Madame Stella Marquez Araneta, head of the Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) that discovered Shamcey in 2011 when she won the Bb. Pilipinas-Universe crown.

The church is memorable to Shamcey because, as she told The STAR’s Ching Alano in an interview a week before the event, “I drew this church when I was an Architecture student at UP, so when Lloyd and I were looking for a church, I told him, ‘Why not this?’” Lloyd is Shamcey’s first boyfriend.

They chose Dec. 29 as date of their wedding because, according to feng shui, it was the only auspicious date left for the year.

They are a handsome couple. An only child, Shamcey, 27, stands 5’8”; while Lloyd, 32, eldest of three children, is 5’11”. More than a year after they were introduced at birthday party by Lloyd’s cousin Carolyn Ty, Shamcey’s fellow Bb. Pilipinas candidate, they were formally engaged Chinese style (ting hun) last June 16 at EDSA Shangri-La Hotel (where the wedding reception was also held) where Lloyd gifted Shamcey with a “promise ring.” Shamcey lost the ring, which was a bit loose for her dainty finger, during an event in Nueva Ecija, and was promptly replaced with a new one.

Obviously, Shamcey isn’t superstitious because she fitted her wedding gown designed by Cherry Samuya Veric (while the one she wore at the dinner-dance reception was by Francis Libiran). Shamcey was back to her Binibini size (109 lbs., 24-inch waistline) so the gown was a perfect fit.

“As Lloyd watched Shamcey being escorted by her parents down the aisle, he couldn’t help shedding tears of joy,” said Tessa Mangahas, PR of BPCI and the Araneta companies, who was among the invited guests.

The newly-weds’ original plan is to fly to Canada next week  where Shamcey will do a fashion show.

“We will extend our stay in Canada and proceed to New York,” Shamcey told Ching.

That’s just the initial part of their honeymoon actually planned to be in Europe (“Not a good time because it’s winter there”) but had to be postponed to later next year.
