NUVALI short film tilt accepts entries

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Nature is a rich and potent source of imagery. With the advent of the independent film movement in the country, the last few years saw the market for small-budgeted, shot-in-digital format movies opening up and the industry thriving as a result.

Nature and celluloid come together in the first-ever NuCinema: NUVALI Short Film Competition whose theme revolves around “Nature’s power and wonder, through the eye of man.”

With it, NUVALI, in association with the Asia Pacific Film Institute aims to highlight NUVALI’s philosophy of sustainability and turn the spotlight to its attractions and developments through films entirely shot around the vast and bustling residential and commercial community situated in Sta. Rosa, Calamba and the Municipality of Cabuyao in Laguna.

Digital short film entries should have a running time that can be strictly anywhere within three to five minutes. Fifteen finalists will be chosen based on the originality and creativity of proposed synopsis including production treatment. Each shortlisted entry will receive a seed grant equivalent to P10,000.

Interested participants are allowed to submit two entries but if in case that both entries by the same filmmaker make it to the Top 5, the entry with the higher score will be deemed as that filmmaker’s lone entry.

The contest is open to all aspiring full-blooded Filipino filmmakers. Entrants who are of Filipino descent are also qualified to join upon submission of proof of their Filipino lineage. Duly completed application form (available for download from the website www.nuvali.ph/events/nucinema) should be inclusive of the following: Brief synopsis (300 words maximum on letter-sized bond paper with one-inch margin all around, 11 points, Calibri), copy of the proponent(s)’ valid ID), cast and crew list and sample work (if any).

The materials must be sent via certified mail or dropped off not later than 7 p.m. of Aug. 30, 2013 at the following offices: Wunderkind Media, third floor of 219 YDG Building, Katipunan Ave., Barangay Blue Ridge, Quezon City, Philippines and 31st floor of Tower One and Exchange Plaza, Ayala Triangle, Ayala Ave., Makati City (c/o Jennifer Chua). Online submissions, however, must be sent not later than 7 p.m. of Aug. 30, at [email protected]
