Bourne Legacy past P112M mark

- The Philippine Star

Manila, Philippines -  Bourne Legacy breaks box-office records in the Philippines. Total gross of the film during its first five days of release in the Philippines hit a hefty $2.7M (estimated P112M). According to a statement from Solar Entertainment, the local film distributor, “The Bourne Legacy exceeded all our expectation,” said Wilson Tieng in a statement. “We expected it to open big and break its own record but this is phenomenal. We would like to thank the exhibitors for expanding their market and we look forward to what promises to be a magical run for the film.”

Despite relentless rains in Metro Manila, Filipinos flocked en masse to theaters nationwide to watch Bourne Legacy would be the first Hollywood film in which Manila plays Manila and sailed past the P17.6M opening day, the biggest opening day for a Bourne franchise. The movie has already doubled and tripled the lifetime gross of 2002, The Bourne Identity (P36.8M), 2004 The Bourne Supremacy (P35.9M) and 2007 The Bourne Ultimatum (P 58.07M) in a span of five days.

The narrative architect behind the Bourne film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1B at the global box-office: The Bourne Legacy. The writer-director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films.

Bourne Legacy is now showing in theaters.
