Sexy Talk with VOIZboys... ...& Rainmakers

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo -

Are compact discs more fun than vinyl records?

This you’ll find out when VOIZboys, reared on YouTube and iTunes, teams up this time with baby-boomers Rainmakers, whose incredible 78-rpm savvy made them standouts in the ‘70s, in VOIZes in the RAIN, their back-to-back post-Valentine’s concert next Friday night, Feb. 18, 8 o’clock at the Music Museum (with Cavite Rep. Lani Mercado, Tuesday Vargas and Janet Basco as special guests).

VOIZboys is composed of Guji Lorenzana, Jay-R Siaboc, Nico Antonio and Tom Rodriguez who have launched their 10-track album last year. Indie-actor-turned heartthrob Guji and Pinoy Dream Academy first runner-up Jay-R are into rock; Nico, a Law student, is into ballads while Pinoy Big Brother housemate Tom does pop music.

Composed of Joel Macanaya, Mon Villanueva, Joseph Lansang and Jojo Gorospe, the Rainmakers jumpstarted the boy band craze in the mid-‘70s. The Rainmakers was organized at the height of the 1969 rainy season. The fusion of the styles of the Beatles, the Lettermen and the Beach Boys established themselves early as top performers. Original members Joel and Jojo recruited Mon, a rising star from Cebu, and then Joseph for his crystal-clear falsetto voice. Composing their own materials, the breakthrough arrived when Vicor Records released the first single Pang-umaga, Pang-tanghali, Pang-gabi, the theme song of the movie of the same title.

After a decade’s absence on the local music scene, the Rainmakers staged the comeback concert Like A Love Song — The Rainmakers at Teatrino on Sept. 3 last year.

VOIZes in the Rain promises a night of nostalgia. Produced by Quantum Music and presented by GlaxoSmithKline, the concert is also sponsored by Caltex, EMCI, Takata and Sen. Juan Ponce-Enrile. Minor sponsors include Bioessence, Toyota Manila Bay, Cookbook Kitchen, Nacho King, the Movie Anti Piracy Council of the Philippines and the Philippine Cinema Shuttlers. (Tickets at P2,000, P1,500 and P1,000 are available at the Music Museum and from Quantum Music; call 887-0226 or 887-7698.)

As the following “sexy talk” (done in keeping with the “lovely” mood of the month) will show, when it comes to, well, the birds and the bees there’s no gap between the “vinyl generation” and the “CD generation.”

What part of your body is most active during very private moments?

Nico: Of course, my lips.

Guji: Lips. Each kiss shows just how much I love my partner.

Tom: My heart.

Jay-R: Also my heart.

Jojo: Lips.

Mon: My sweet lips.

Joel: My lips and my tongue.

Joseph: My fingers.

Does age matter in love?

Guji: Age is nothing but a number as long as the ones involved are mature and they communicate well.

The Rainmakers quartet (from left): Jojo Gorospe, Joel Macanaya, Mon Villanueva and Joseph Lansang

Nico: It does not matter as long as you love her.

Jay-R: No as long as you love each other and you’re not hurting other people.

Tom: It’s also a no for me.

Joseph: Yes, a bit.

Jojo: Oh, no!

Mon: Not much. What counts is performance!

Joel: No, not really. Just make sure that you make the right moves!

How do you prepare for a Valentine’s date?

Nico: A good workout and a great shower.

Tom: Proper grooming and exercise.

Jay-R: I prepare my whole body.

Guji: Me? I try to work out at the gym regularly. I want to be the “dessert.” Hahahaha!

Jojo: It’s still my usual routine. When I wake up, I pray to God for safety and guidance throughout the day. I take a thorough bath, then dry myself, put some moisturizer on my face and mousse on to the hair. Then, I dress up and see to it that I put my best feet forward.

Mon: A good workout and a heavy meal.

Joel: As usual, with a massive dose of Vitamin B (B1, B2, B6, B12). Hehehehehe. I always eat a lot of okra and honey.

Joseph: Just two teaspoonfuls of royal jelly will do!

What part of your body gets the most attention?

Nico: My heart because it’s what keeps the party going at a time where it matters the most.

Guji: Chest and shoulders…to give my girl something to hang on, hold and kiss. And when I hold her, I want her to feel safe with a strong upper body.

Tom: My brain and my heart.

Jay-R: My partner!

Mon: Parts that I can shave.

Joseph: My legs because they get me going. My hands.

Jojo: It’s my spirit because it’s what I am going to offer best to my partner.

Joel: Hands and fingers. They do come together at times.

Are you monogamous?

Nico: Of course!

Guji: Yes. Once I find the one I’m sensually compatible with and have the most passion with then I am completely faithful.

Tom: Yes.

Jay-R: I love a lot of people but as far as romantic love is concerned, I have it for only two persons, my girlfriend and myself.

Joseph: No, sa totoo lang.

Jojo: Yes, the last 10 years.

Mon: Hmmm...You mean doing it alone sometimes?

Joel: Does it mean one at a time? Of course!

What makes a woman sexy?

Nico: Wit and charm.

Guji: Confidence and poise.

Tom: Intelligence and wit.

Jay-R: Personality.

Mon: Captivating eyes and a woman’s scent.

Joseph: Her intelligence.

Jojo: Her toes.

Joel: Her eyes and voice.

What makes you feel sexy?

Nico: It is after I make love.

Guji: When my girl can’t stop looking at me, constantly flirting with me with her eyes especially in a crowded room.

Tom: Whenever I can make my partner happy.

Jay-R: When a lot of girls approach me and when my girlfriend wants me.

Joel: Good wine and good crossover music.

Mon: Singing onstage with girls screaming.

Joseph: When I see my date start to undress.

Jojo: When I’m naked.

Which makes you feel sexy, white undies or colored undies?

Nico: Colored.

Guji: White.

Tom: Colored.

Jay-R: White.

Jojo: It doesn’t matter.

Joseph: Colored, dark.

Joel: Sexier when it’s just plain white or black at least for me.

Mon: Glow in the dark!

What’s your fantasy Valentine’s date?

Nico: On a space ship as we travel to the moon.

Guji: On the beach by candlelight.

Tom: A romantic dinner on a peak overlooking the city.

Jay-R: A date in Europe.

Mon: Bahamas, on my boat.

Joseph: Doing it in a very private place with a little classical baroque music.

Jojo: A day in a theme park with my date.

Joel: Me and my date alone in one of the pristine, white beaches of Pagudpud, drinking wine and kissing under a starry-starry night.

Who’s your fantasy Valentine’s date?

Nico: My wife.

Guji: Secret!

Tom: I’ll leave that fantasy to myself and your own imagination.

Jay-R: I won’t mention her name but we’ve been together before. (Clue: She’s named after the citizen of a country in Europe.)

Mon: Eva Longoria.

Joseph: Secret.

Jojo: Maria Sharapova.

Joel: Catherine Zeta Jones.

How would you like to spend a romantic night?

Nico: By having it on an island like the scenes from Blue Lagoon.

Guji: Underneath the covers.

Tom: With passion and romance.

Jay-R: Anything as long as we end up in the bedroom.

Mon: Again, at the Bahamas on my boat.

Joseph: In a place not air-conditioned but cool.

Jojo: A night swim in a rooftop pool of a five-star hotel in Abu Dhabi, ALONE!

Joel: I would love to...perhaps I’d sing a song for her, I want to spend my lifetime loving you...Hahahaha!

Rainmakers, how about your fantasy Valentine’s in the rain?

Joel: Yes, sure, to guarantee we get wet.

Joseph: Me? I want not only to sing but also dance in the rain.

Jojo: The sound of the rain will muffle the ooohs and the aaahs.

Mon: It’s a chance to share (use) my tiny, tiny umbrella. Hehehehehe!

Which part of your body do you like her to kiss the most?

Nico: I like my woman kissing the back of my ear because it gives me a tingling sensation.

Guji: My neck right, below my ear. I am most ticklish and sensitive there.

Tom: My neck. It just feels sexy.

Jay-R: None in particular but any part will do. Hehehehehe!

Mon: It all starts at the lips…

Jojo: Lips.

Joel: Well, she can start with my ears, my lips, my...

Joseph: I’m different. I want it a little above my….hmmmm!

What song from the VOIZes in the RAIN concert will you sing to her?

Guji: All I Have To Give.

Tom: Hello by Lionel Ritchie.

Jay-R: You to Me.

Nico: Secret. She’ll have to be there to find out for herself.

Joseph: Betcha by Golly Wow.

Jojo: Got to Believe in Magic.

Joel: How Deep Is Your Love.

Mon: Beat this: Laughter in the Rain!
