John Lloyd & Bea: It might be them

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo -
Now fancy-free (after a bitter break-up with Ciara Sotto), John Lloyd Cruz has fully recovered after sulking for days in a darkened room and he’s starting to appreciate the beauty around him again. The poet is right: It’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

Helping John Lloyd (who turned 21 last June 24) "live again" is his screen sweetheart Bea Alonzo who’s looking forward misty-eyed to her debut next year and claims not having had any boyfriend.

"I must admit that we’re closer now more than ever," confessed John Lloyd. "I’m more comfortable working with Bea now."

"He has come out of his shell," said Bea who recalled John to be a loner, keeping to himself in one corner in-between takes. "He is more sociable now; he has begun mixing with people."

The two were first paired in the top-rated ABS-CBN soap Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay which was so successful that, ayos na ang kasunod, a follow-up was in order, the equally-high-rating It Might Be You. John Lloyd and Bea have also starred in one movie, Star Cinema’s twin bill My First Romance (with John Prats and Heart Evangelista as the other pair), and will soon be seen in Now That I Have You (also from Star Cinema), directed by Laurenti Dyogi (All My Life, etc.) from a screenplay by Jose Javier Reyes. In this modern-day love story, John and Bea’s romance starts at the MRT where they first meet among thousands of commuters.

On screen, John Lloyd and Bea look good together, a perfect pair.

Their fans wish their idols’ romance were for real. Now, are John and Bea compatible? To find out, Funfare has decided to put them to a "compatibility test" (a word association game). Hang on.

• LOVE

John Lloyd: Paris! What a romantic city! Someday, I hope to go there, possibly with my loved one.

Bea: Beach. I find the beach romantic.

• HAPPINESS

John Lloyd: Contentment. I know I’m happy when I make people happy.

Bea: Peace in the family. I’m happy kung happy ang family ko.

• SUCCESS

John Lloyd: Self-fulfillment. I don’t associate success with material things.

Bea: Being able to do what you want.

• RAIN

John Lloyd: Rain shower, rain dance!

Bea: Childhood games played in the rain.

• PET PEEVES

John Lloyd: I’m a movie freak and when I’m watching a movie, I hate those who are noisy, ‘yung walang manners. Nakaka-distract!

Bea: Ayoko ng mga taong mayabang. They’re so irritating!

• GEORGE W. BUSH

John Lloyd: War

Bea: Bravery

• JULIA ROBERTS

John Lloyd: A beautiful smile!

Bea: Versatility.

• THE POPE

John Lloyd: Great responsibility to the world.

Bea: Father (on earth).

• SPIDER-MAN

John Lloyd: My favorite hero (comics character). Isn’t he the one with a Batmobile? Oops! It’s Batman. Joke only. Do you know what I like about Spider-Man? His angst. I can identify with it.

Bea: I look at him not just as a comics character but a human being.

• SEX APPEAL

John Lloyd: Bea Alonzo. Oozing!!!

Bea: Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!

John Lloyd: Butt and boobs. I’m a boobs person.

Bea: Sige na nga... John Lloyd Cruz!

• WHITE

John Lloyd: An over-rated color. White shouldn’t be a sign of purity. Kasi sa white (smoothing the table cloth in front of him)... it’s so blank, di ba? Marami kang puwedeng ilagay doon.

Bea: Innocence

• RED

John Lloyd: Burnt! Pag sunog, red na red, di ba?

Bea: Sexy! Reminds me of red lipstick. Konti lang ang binabagayan ng red lipstick, di ba? Red lipstick enhances a woman’s sexiness.

• BLUE

John Lloyd: Blue leads to black.

Bea: Cool!

• FUTURE

John Lloyd: I’m not futuristic. I’m more concerned with today, with the here and now. I am today-based.

Bea: Simple and happy family, with happy kids.

• FAMILY

John Lloyd: Having meals together, attending services together. I always think of togetherness when the word family crops up because we are not together. Kasi my two brothers are in the States. I always long for a simple meal shared by everybody in the family and just the thought of it makes me sad. Our family is okay as it is, masaya, pero iba ‘yung alam mong may kulang. Dati, you take family togetherness for granted. Now, hinahanap-hanap mo maski simpleng dinner lang with them.

Bea: Same. Togetherness. Because I’m busy, di ko masyadong nakakapiling ang pamilya ko.

• KITE

John Lloyd: I pity a kite because it’s not free, unlike a bird. Ang kite, nakatali, e!

Bea: Childhood; child games.

• SUN

John Lloyd: When you step on it, you can get burned, di ba? So don’t step on the sun.

Bea: Energy

• MUSIC

John Lloyd: Emotions. All sorts of emotions. You can tell what mood I’m in by the music I listen to. When I’m sad, I listen to sad music; when I’m happy, I listen to happy music.

Bea: Ganoon din ako. Music is good therapy, too.

• JEWELRY

John Lloyd: A statement, but I hate people who display jewelry.

Bea: Luxury.

• SHOWBIZ/STARDOM

John Lloyd: There’s a thin line between contentment and disappointment.

Bea: Unstable, unpredictable.

• AMERICA

John Lloyd: My brothers (one is in New York).

Bea: A life far from being simple.

• SEA

John Lloyd: Demon! It swallows people.

Bea: Peaceful and calm, relaxing!

• DARKNESS

John Lloyd: Roses. They’re dark, actually. People see only the bright side of a rose – ang gandang tingnan! – but roses have a dark side. Ano ‘yon? It’s for you to find out.

Bea: Trials

• CAT

John Lloyd: Lifetime partnership

Bea: I don’t really like cats. Parang traitors sila.

• BEA ALONZO

John Lloyd: Purity. Innocence.

• JOHN LLOYD CRUZ

Bea: Deep!

(Verdict? They seem to be opposites, aren’t they? Therefore, they’re compatible. Why? Don’t opposites attract each other, complement each other?)
