Samsung unveils new LED monitor, high-tech printers

- Manny N. de los Reyes -

MANILA, Philippines - Samsung Electronics Philippines Corp. (SEPCO) recently unveiled in an interactive press launch at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Ortigas an array of new environmentally friendly printers and a stunning, new LED monitor.

Featuring a luminous power button and a visually arresting floating design, the Samsung PX2370’s ultra-slim 16.5-mm thin LED display not only presents superb images and videos, it makes just as big an impact on the planet’s environment with its eco-friendly features.

The Samsung PX2370 LED Monitor comes with complete sRGB support, delivering consistent picture quality across a wide array of digital devices from digital cameras to HD camcorders. This enables users to view, edit and save images in their original format with no picture quality degradation whatsoever.

Halogen and lead-free, recyclable and engineered to consume less power, the PX2370 is more eco-friendly than conventional CCFL monitors. The innovative LED engineering also means they take up a lot less space and offer super-fast response times, ensuring that you get a more efficient and more enjoyable computing experience.

The PX2370 reduces power consumption by 40 percent compared to conventional monitors. By reducing the number of LED and defaulting to standby power, which requires less than 0.3W as opposed to the typical 1.0W, the PX2370 saves 120W each day. That’s the annual equivalent of eliminating 10.8kg of carbon dioxide emitted from an oil-burning power plant – which produces the same effect as planting four pine trees.

The PX2370’s unique transparent floating stand neck creates the mesmerizing impression of its monitor display floating freely, as if on water. And there’s a round, luminous power button at the peak of the neck, right below the display that glows softly when touched. The neck and button combine to conjure a cool, natural vibe and evoke a soothing peacefulness.

New monochrome laser printers

Also unveiled at the event were Samsung’s new monochrome laser printers, the ML-1660 and ML-1665. These new printers offer users an intuitive printing experience by incorporating a number of easy-to-use one-touch features into its design.

The Samsung Print Screen button provides consumers with a quick and easy way to print exactly what they see on their PC screen at the touch of a button. The printer is also compatible with Samsung’s AnyWeb Print software. This allows users to select, drag and drop specific content from webpages into a new blank page on their screen, which they can then save or print.

The AnyWeb Print software allows users to print just the information they really need, rather than printing several whole webpages. This means users are not wasting time or resources such as paper and toner.

And rather than hiding the on/off switch at the back of the printer, Samsung’s new Soft Power button is located on the front panel of the devices, making it simpler to turn them on and off.

Ideal for the smallest of working environments, the new printers are even more compact than previous models, making them the smallest in the market. They also feature a streamlined design and a stylish, glossy black finish. A cover on the output tray contributes to the streamlined look and helps keep the noise level down, avoiding unnecessary distraction at home or in the office.

With print speeds of up to 16 pages per minute (ppm) and a first-page-out time of less than 8.5 seconds, the ML-1660 offers a high-quality and robust printer for personal users with regular printing needs.

“Samsung understands that consumers don’t want to have to worry about working out how to use their new devices,” said Ed Kasunuran Jr., SEPCO product manager for printers.

“With the new printers, we have incorporated a wide range of features in a stylish and compact device to make printing simple and convenient,” he added.

Making it easy to switch the printers on and off encourages consumers to turn them off when they aren’t being used, rather than leaving them in sleep mode. This can help avoid unnecessary energy consumption, saving as much as 9.55 watts per hour. Over a year, this equates to the same amount of energy as leaving a light on for over 18 days.

The black toner cartridges that supply these printers deliver a 1,500-page yield and are claimed to provide the same high standard of quality and reliability to be expected from Samsung original printing supplies.

New multifunction all-in-one printer

Also launched was Samsung’s new multifunction SCX-4623F all-in-one printer, which can print, scan, copy, fax, and PC-fax.

“The ability of the Samsung SCX-4623F to go beyond basic printing functions is just what I need,” said Solar TV marketing manager and PBA sportscaster Vitto Lazatin. The SCX-4623F was designed to be ideal for creating proposals, presentations, and contracts.

A very busy lady, businesswoman and mother, Rose Manzano spends a lot of time with the computer, researching for information useful in her business venture, Bath Origins.

“I need to print what I find on the Internet so it will be easy to go back to later,” she said, adding she was delighted to find the Print Screen button, which she could use to instantly print anything on-screen without the hassle of copying and pasting information onto another program.

“This printer lessens my work time, so I get to spend time with my kids,” she said.

Lifestyle blogger and Solar TV Network development head for sports Martin David finds his interests in sneakers, travel, and sports integrated in his life. For his website SoleMovement.com, he researches intensively for the newest in his interests for his readers.

“I need a printer so I can print out what I researched because it’s easier to see and understand information when everything’s printed in front of you,” he said.

Ease of use and setup is vital for Chef Jo-Anne Trias, a Culinary Arts instructor and restaurateur.

“Computers aren’t really my thing,” she said. However, she said that she also needs to create numerous documents for both her classes and business. The SCX-4623 also has Samsung’s patented AnyWeb software.

Samsung even throws in an easy 12-month payment scheme for the Samsung SCX-4623F. The main unit costs P11,990 in one year, and P2,990 for replacement toners that yield 2,500 pages each. It also has a Toner Save Mode, which helps save up to 40 percent more toner.
