Millions of Pinoys still on 2G/3G SIMs

MANILA, Philippines — Millions of Filipinos are still missing out on better mobile experience as they continue to use their 2G and 3G SIM cards, Globe Telecom said.

The Ayala-led telco said these 2G and 3G users are thus unable to enjoy the benefits of 4G technology, which opens up a wide range of experiences using the internet and other mobile applications.

“There are a lot of things you can do with your phone other than call, text and take pictures. We want all our customers to experience the wonders of data connectivity so they too can learn, get entertained, socialize, shop, or even work within the confines of their own homes. They can only do that with 4G and other more advanced mobile technologies,” Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu said.

To ensure that no one is left behind when it comes to mobile technology and services, Globe is helping its customers shift to 4G for free.

Globe said postpaid and prepaid customers only need to text SIM CHECK to 8080 to see if a SIM card is 4G-capable.

It said those who are still using 2G/3G SIM may bring their SIMs to the nearest Globe Stores to upgrade to 4G SIM for free.

Postpaid mobile customers, meanwhile, can also request to have their SIMs changed via the GlobeOne App.

Globe said 2G and 3G technologies are nearing obsolescence, with many telcos in other countries halting their 2G/3G services.

The telco continues to upgrade and expand its network and services in response to the growing demand for better data connectivity in different parts of the country.
