TeaM Energy plant hits 10-M safe man hours

MANILA, Philippines -  TeaM Energy’s 1,218-megawatt clean-coal facility in Sual, Pangasinan has achieved a first in the Philippine energy industry by reaching the 10-million safe man-hours mark. This figure represents the combined man-hours among plant employees without any incident that has rendered a worker unable to perform their task due to accident or injury.

“This achievement speaks of our company’s commitment to operate in a manner that is consistent with the highest of global standards,” said Federico E. Puno. He also commenced the men and women of the Sual Power Station for their “dedication, exceptional talent and hard work” that contributed to the milestone.

Puno also points out that achieving operational excellence has always been one of the company’s foremost priorities. “there can be no compromise when it comes to the safety of our employees as well as to surrounding communities. This is an integral part of our drive for operational excellence,” he stressed.

The Sual Power Station is responsible for generating roughly 15 percent of Luzon’s energy needs, providing reliable and affordable electricity to industries and households. The plant is also ISO 14001 certified for its environmental management system.

It is also a consistent recipient of the Gawad Kaligtasan at Kalusugan (GKK0 Award from the Department of Labor and Employment for its outstanding achievements in occupational safety and health practices.

TeaM Energy, a partnership between Tokyo Electric Power Co. and Marubeni Corp., is one of the largest independent power producrs in the country with more than 2,000 MW of installed generating capacity nationwide. TeaM Energy also operates the 735-MW Pagbilao Power Station in Quezon. It also has a 20-percent stake in the 1,200-MW natural gas-fired plant in Ilijan, Batangas.
