Your daily to do list

- Francis J. Kong -

A doctor was checking 3 old guys for mental agility.

To the First guy the doctor asked, “How much is 3x3?”

First guy says: ”156.” To the Second guy the doctor asked, “How much is 3x3?” Second guy: “Tuesday.”

Exasperated, to the Third guy the doctor asked: ”How much is 3x3?”

Third guy replies: ”9” Doctor was amazed but he wanted to be sure and so he asked: “How did you know so fast?”

Third guy: “Easy, I just took 156 and subtracted Tuesday.”

This is so insane. And do you realize how insane it is these days when we have to pack so many activities within the same time given. Technology has given us the ability to do many things but no technology in the world can add more hours to a day.

This is why I cannot function well without my “To Do List.” I used to carry a heavy signature leather planner. Lugged it around. There was a time when I bought my planner with me to Milan and together with my other things, they got stolen. It must have taken me two whole weeks just to reconstruct the data in my brand new planner.

And then a person I respect highly showed me a device he was using.

It’s been years now and maybe he has forgotten all about it but Bobby Go showed me his Palm Pilot. That was my enchantment with the digital world and from that day on, digital was the way to go for me. Smart phones today are vital. And the advantage for this is that a back-up system makes it convenient for me to restore data.

My smart phone contains my schedule. I have it backed up regularly. I lose my data and I lose my opportunity. From my data I plan my work.

And the work are contained in my To do List. From my To Do List I make decisions, and I make my choices. For after all, “our lives are the sum total of the choices we make and the things we do each day.”

I am quite sure you have your own To Do List. May I make a suggestion? Make sure that from your To Do List, you make a conscious choice to make every day extraordinary.

Sure. You have meetings, you have presentations and you have appointments. These are not the things I am taking about. But you make everyday extraordinary by asking yourself the following questions:

Did I tell or show someone that I loved them?

Did I compliment or praise someone I live or work with today?

Did I read a book or listen to an MP3 that stimulates my thinking?

Did I increase my skill in my profession?

Did I do something to improve my health?

Am I closer to my goals than when I woke up this morning?

Did I do anything tough or challenging to build discipline?

Did I do something for the joy of it?

Have I taken time to reflect on the lessons of the day?

Have I planned for another successful day tomorrow?

Have I prayed and taken care of my spiritual being?

Have I taken the time to meditate on Scriptures and feed my soul?

Your To do List should not just list down plain, mundane and routine things you need to do in the work place. Your To Do List should include activities that would add value to your well being. Things and activities that would enrich your soul. For after all, man is never complete until he is fulfilled in all the 3 areas of his life. The Body, the soul and the spirit.

Live life to the full. Take extra care in preparing your To Do List.

Somebody says: “There is no cure for birth and death, save to enjoy the interval.”
