Nutrilite continues to innovate to help people achieve optimal health

- Zinnia B. Dela Peña -

Nutrilite, the world’s leading brand of vitamins, minerals and dietary supplements in tablet form, is showing no signs of slowing down as it continues to be at the forefront of innovation to help people achieve optimal health.

For more than 70 years, Nutrilite has been a leader in nutrition, constantly innovating and raising quality standards through constant research into new and more effective plant nutrients.

Nutrilite relies on its own vast farms in California, Mexico, and Brazil for the procurement of the plants that form its raw material and uses technology to dehydrate and process the farm products. Its first product was created in 1934 by the late Carl Rehnborg, a scientist who introduced the first multivitamins/multimineral supplement in the US and the world.

While living in China in the 1920’s, Carl developed a passion for nutrition and wellness out of a desire to help people achieve better health naturally.  This led him to the development of a unique dietary supplement brand called Nutrilite, which he sold directly to customers since it wasn’t carried by either traditional supermarkets or pharmacies.

To ensure the wide distribution of his product, Carl came up with a revolutionary business model that allowed his salespeople both to sell the product and to recruit and train new people.

This plan attracted the founders of Amway who became Nutrilite’s successful distributors and who later on bought the Nutrilite brand when Carl passed away.

Today, under the leadership of Carl’s son, Dr. Sam Rehnborg, and with over a hundred dedicated scientists and researchers and 200 products, Nutrilite is committed to preserving the Nutrilite heritage by continuing to produce high quality, innovative supplements.

Dr. Sam Rehnborg says Nutrilite is the only company backed by 75 years of pioneering research, an impressive roster of experts, and a state-of-the-art research and education center for optimal health.

Located in Buena Park, California, the Nutrilite Health Institute offers the latest in personalized health and preventive care and pursues many different kinds of research programs, often collaborating with leading scientific institutions around the world—from Stanford University Prevention Research Center, to Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea to develop the rapidly emerging field of phytonutrient science.

Each month, Nutrilite manufactures over half a billion tablets, which are tested a dozen times to ensure that they measure up to precise specifications for quality, potency, size, weight, and hardness.

Dr. Sam said the Nutrilite approach to health puts the focus on prevention, supplemented with conventional medicine when it becomes necessary.

“We know that if we could get other people to embrace optimal health most of the other problems will go away. Unfortunately in our modern day society, particularly in the US and those cultures in which we have influence over, people are always looking for magic bullets that will cure cancer or prevent heart disease,” he said.

“The idea is that we live vigorously for the longest time possible.  And this is what’s going to necessitate people to start early on in one’s life.  You gotta take charge of your life.  I believe there’s going to be a tidal wave on optimal health and women got to take charge,” he said.

Dr. Sam said the Nutrilite Health Institute’s goal is to increase consumer understanding about how they can achieve optimal health, through nutrition, fitness, and supplementation.

“ We all need to properly prioritize our lives and choose to think of ways that will benefit our health.  How we feel affects our body.  Optimal health should compel us to choose every day to be our best by selecting the right foods and supplements, engaging in exercise and rest and by incorporating healthy habits and balance in everything we do,” Dr. Sam said.

Nutrilite senior guest relations coordinator Robert Tully said having a positive outlook on life is a step toward optimal wellness.

Dr. Sam said Nutrilite is building a plant in Vietnam in line with the group’s strategy to further beef up its presence worldwide and increase public awareness.

“My vision is to have our products sold in as many countries as possible and to give every person the opportunity to live a richer and more fulfilling life,” Dr. Sam Said.

In line with efforts to deliver superior customer service, Nutrilite is offering gene tests to predetermine a person’s genetic predisposition. It plans to roll out its genetic tests in Japan and Korea.

The results of a genetic test can confirm or rule out a suspected genetic condition and help determine a person’s chance of developing or passing on a genetic disorder and what adjustments to  make in his or her nutrition, exercise, lifestyle, and health care practices.

Aside from this, Nutrilite also offers weight management products which include a range of food bars, drinks and food supplements. These are specially designed to aid in weight loss programs and provide delicious alternatives to high calorie junk foods and meals.

Nutrilite’s best selling product is Double X, a  multivitamin/mutimineral supplement that contains 23 vitamins and minerals.

Nutrilite products are being distributed by Amway Philippines, a global leader in the direct selling service.

Launched in 1997 with just 11 homecare and personal products, Amway Philippines now has over 100 offerings ranging from personal care, nutritional supplements, cleaning products, skin care and agricultural products.

In the past, experts claimed that if people ate healthy diets, taking vitamins was not necessary. However, research is now showing that it is beneficial for the majority of adults to take a multivitamin each day.

Scientists have discovered evidence  that taking more than the  minimum daily requirements of certain vitamins may avert the onset of chronic diseases, including osteoporosis, cancer, and heart disease.
