Website marketing company Prosperity.Com welcomed the decision of President Arroyo to accept the chairmanship of the Information Technology and Electronic Commerce Council (ITECC) and her proposal to create an information and communications technology (ICT) department.
Malcolm Crawley, chairman of Prosperity.Com, said the twin moves would enable the government to address the current economic and technological realities that are not covered under existing laws.
"A comprehensive digital convergence bill that will define the principles, policies, and administrative and regulative framework will be good for our sector," Crawley said.
He explained that the lack of clear and realistic guidelines emboldens undisciplined companies to resort to dirty tricks in pulling down successful competitors.
Crawley thanked the President for inscribing competition as an important principle in the proposed convergence law to ensure that emerging entities will not engage in anti-competitive practices.
He also commended Trade and Industry Secretary Manuel Roxas II for the inspired initiative of offering the post to President Arroyo to improve organizational effectiveness because the President can order all agencies to cut bureaucracy and implement programs at shorter deadlines.
"Prosperity.com fully supports the government’s commitment to transform the Philippines into a knowledge-based economy," said Crawley, adding that "our board has approved our expansion plans in the region as part of our mission to educate Filipinos on the importance of having a website for personal and business use and its contribution to making the Philippines a major ICT player in the world"
Prosperity.Com recently expanded its offices at the West Tower of the Philippine Stock Exchange Center in Ortigas to cater to the growing demands of its customers. It now features a training room, password-releasing counters, customer relations booths, and a spacious reception area. The company’s training center at the 2nd level of Robinsons Galleria accommodates 240 participants at a time, while its computer laboratory conducts tutorials to 100 website owners everyday. Additional telephone nos. 636-7789, 68-72483 to 86 were added to make it more convenient for their customers to reach them.
