Westlife live in Manila

- Featured Blogger Aaron Erick Lozada -

The late 90s saw the boom of the boy band genre. Long before the Jonas Brothers, the young generation before me fell in love with the boyish charms of Shane Filan, Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, and Mark Feehily, members of the popular boy band Westlife.

Indeed, rumors are true – the Irish pop group, which boasts 10 multi-platinum albums and 14 No. 1 hits (in the UK alone), and has sold 44 million albums worldwide, is returning to Manila on September 29 for a one-night concert at the Araneta Coliseum.

Among the originals of the Westlife that had become No. 1 hits are “Swear It Again,” “If I Let You Go,” “Flying Without Wings,” “Fool Again,” “My Love,” “World of our Own,” “Queen of My Heart,” “Unbreakable” and “When You’re Looking Like That.” Their cover songs such as “Mandy”, “Uptown Girl” and “Against All Odds (Take A Look at Me Now)” also became staples in radio stations and music channels.

Westlife is currently promoting their eleventh album “Gravity,” released in November 2010. They worked on the album with Grammy-award winning producer John Shanks, who produced tracks for a number of musicians such as Kelly Clarkson, Alanis Morrisette, Melissa Etheridge, Sheryl Crow, Miley Cyrus, Backstreet Boys and Take That.

Westlife has toured around the world extensively, having 10 official tours since the year 2000, with stops around Europe, in Asia, South Africa, the Middle East and Australia. They are currently on their Gravity tour, with shows in Oman, the United Arab Emirates, the UK and Ireland.
