PSL holds matches behind closed doors

MANILA, Philippines — Three teams try to break into the winner’s circle today while Chery Tiggo aims for a second win in the Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The matches will be held behind closed doors due to the scary coronavirus disease 2019 situation.

Winless squads Marinerang Pilipina (0-2) and Generika-Ayala (0-2) collide at 7 p.m. right after the clash between the Chery Tiggo Crossovers (1-1) and the PLDT Power Hitters (0-2) at 5 p.m.

With the big names added in its fold, led by national team campaigner Mylene Paat and decorated setter Jasmine Nabor, the pressure is high on Chery Tiggo to deliver against PLDT, which is seeking its first win in the tournament.

The Crossovers suffered a stinging 17-25, 22-25, 21-25 loss to Petron, which continued to prove its doubters wrong with a 2-0 start despite losing several key cogs to free agency.

To bounce back, coach Aaron Velez would need more from Paat, Nabor and import Tatjana Bokan, whose 33-point eruption went for naught against the Blaze Spikers.

Standing in their way are the hungry Power Hitters, who will rely on French reinforcement Maeva Orle to lead a depleted local roster following the departure of Nabor, Jerrili Malabanan and Gretchcel Soltones.
