Aces gun for 3-1 edge vs Batang Pier tonight

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Alaska Milk, dominating Globalport with its experience, energy and effort in the last two games, seeks to keep a good job, as it guns for a commanding 3-1 lead in their side of the Smart Bro PBA Philippine Cup best-of-seven semifinals tonight at the Big Dome.

Game time is at 5 p.m. with either the Aces moving into the doorstep of a second straight all-Filipino finals or the Batang Pier forcing a 2-2 tie in the series.

But how can Globalport cope up with Alaska Milk? This is the challenge the Batang Pier face as seen by Globalport team owner Mikee Romero himself.

“To our Globalport Batang Pier fans: no excuses, the team is just choking –  period. Our team is playing like a bunch of girls in a men’s league,” said Romero on his Facebook account, ending his post with a hash tag #nopridetofight.

The Batang Pier have to rise to the challenge or chalk up win No. 3 for the Aces.

The Aces have thoroughly outworked and outplayed the Batang Pier from the second half of Game Two, leading to back-to-back triumphs after yielding the series opener.

Coach Alex Compton and his troops have raised the level of their game notches higher, with

the Batang Pier failing to keep up.

Coach Pido Jarencio offered no excuses, saying: “Outplayed and outcoached, ‘yun lang ‘yun.”

The question really is how Terrence Romeo, Stanley Pringle and their teammates would respond.

Vic Manuel and Calvin Abueva lead Alaska Milk’s energy bunch that’s proving too hot to handle for Globalport.

The Aces once again rode high on the energy and effort of their super second group as they whipped the Globalport Batang Pier, 82-69, Friday for the crucial 2-1 series lead.

Manuel, Abueva, RJ Jazul, Chris Banchero and Dondon Hontiveros formed the unit that dealt the Batang Pier tremendous beating as they did in their 100-76 win in Game Two.

And the Aces vow they would do their best to put the Batang Pier in a deeper hole in Game Four.

“No way we’re gonna be content, we’re not yet there,” said Alaska coach Alex Compton.
