Kim, Borja head winners in Highlands Ladies Cup

MANILA, Philippines - Kim Chang Yuen carded a one-under 71 to bag the low gross crown while Bart Borja took the low net honors with a 68 as they led the winners in the 10th Highlands Ladies Cup at the Tagaytay Midlands Golf Club in Tagaytay recently.

Doy Mercado shot an 84 for a net 69 as he nipped Joey Solis, who had a net 70 from a gross 84, for the Group A crown while Winada Effendy turned in a net 71 from a gross 91 to edge Ver Raymundo, who had a gross 99, in the countback for the Group B diadem of the event organized by the Tagaytay Highlands Ladies Chapter and backed by Diamond sponsors Auto Nation Group Inc., W Group Inc. and Pacific Online.

Lito Maraña shot a net 72 from a gross 102 to edge Judge Nor Guanlao, who had a 105 for a net 73, by one for the Group C title in the 18-hole tournament supported by Platinum sponsors Bingo Bonanza, PLDT-SME, Security Bank, SM Store and Smart Communications and Gold backer Pilipinas Shell.

Jang Diane made a net 69 from a gross 80 to rule the ladies division by one over Ikuko Kito, who had a gross 88 for a net 70 in the tournament also held for the benefit of Sisters of Mary and the Boys and Girls Town in Silang, Cavite with the mission of education for employment.

Effendy also took the nearest to the pin plum in the special holes while Gerry Bautista and Lex Rodriguez shared the most accurate drive honors and Luca Romualdez, 14, came through with the longest drive (256 yards) on No. 2.

Ten next generation Highlanders, composed of children and grandchildren of THLC members, graced the event by hitting the ceremonial drive, led by Michael Albert, Gabby Borja, Sofia Jayme, Franchesca Imperial, Ben Romualdez, Luis Tuason, Monty Vergara, John Ethan Wee Jr., Clarisse Wong and Julianne Wong.
