Smart Nat’l Open badminton tourney up at Powersmash

MANILA, Philippines - The best of the best male and female players of all ages all over the Philippines will clash in the Smart National Open Badminton Tournament July 14-18 at the Powersmash Badminton Center on Chino Roces Avenue, Makati.

The tournament, supported by Smart Telecommunication’s chairman Manny V. Pangilinan, is expected to draw over 500 players, including the country’s toughest veteran badminton players and the national team.

National players Antonino Toby Gadi, Peter Gabriel Magnaye, Joper Escueta, Paul Vivas, Gelita Castilo, Jayson Oba-ob, Ronel Estanislao and Michael Cudiamat are expected to lead the cast  in the five-day tournament sanctioned by the Philippine Badminton Association.

The tournament is part of the Philippine National Ranking System (PBARS).

PBA president Jejomar Binay, also the country’s Vice President, PBA secretary-general Rep. Albee Benitez and Pangilinan are expected to grace the opening ceremony.

The tournament is supported by the MVP Sports Foundation, PBA, Smart Live More, Sun Cellular, Smash Philippines and Babolat.

The categories in the event are men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles. At stake are cash prizes, trophies and medals for the winners.

All badminton teams, training camps and all other badminton aficionados in the country are invited to join the competition.
