Bodybuilders seek berths in Mr & Ms Universe meet

Health and fitness buffs will get the chance to see the country’s top musclemen and women in action as Flex, Inc. is hosting the 2006 Mr. & Ms. NABBA (National Body Builders Association) Universe Philippine Team qualifier on July 15 at the AFP Theater.

Cash prizes, unique trophies and the chance to represent the country in the Mr. & Ms. Universe this December in Germany will be up for grabs in the event using the theme "The Gallant Filipino Warriors of the Universe."

The event was launched yesterday by Flex, Inc. members Danny Cordero, Morris Limpagan and Therese Yupangco, RP’s representatives to the world event last year, and Gary Yupangco at the Networld Hotel in Pasay City.

"It’s the first time that the event will be held in Metro Manila so we’re really excited about it," said Cordero. "By holding this event annually, we hope we could develop the sport of bodybuilding in the country."

Titles at stake are Mr. & Ms. Philippines, Mr. Physique, and Ms. Figure and a total purse of P400,000 in cash prizes will be given away to the winners.

Beautifully-carved wooden trophies with images of Ifugao warriors and made by award-winning national artist Santos "Hanto" Bayucca will also be at stake.

"It’s not for the money, it’s for promoting the sports and being healthy and fit," said Cordero.
