Go aids Pola oil spill victims

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bong Go visited and provided assistance to residents affected by the oil spill in Pola, Oriental Mindoro on Monday.

Go acknowledged the devastating impact of the incident on the livelihood and well-being of affected communities even as he stressed the need for immediate and coordinated action to address the oil spill and its aftermath.

The senator has been vocal in his call for concerned authorities to swiftly respond to the oil spill from the sunken MT Princess Empress. He said the owner of the vessel should take full responsibility.

During a relief activity at the Manuel M. De Castro Memorial Auditorium, Go and his team distributed food packs, vitamins, face masks and snacks to 500 residents. Select beneficiaries received bicycles, cell phones, shoes, watches, balls for basketball and volleyball and shirts.

Personnel from the Department of Social Welfare and Development provided financial assistance to affected residents.

During the relief activity, Go stressed the importance of accessing medical services through the Malasakit Center at the Oriental Mindoro Provincial Hospital in Calapan City.

He said he also supports the establishment of Super Health Centers nationwide to provide basic medical services to communities in need.
