Cop slain in Lanao del Sur ambush
COTABATO CITY, Philippines — A police sergeant was killed while a corporal was wounded following an ambush in Picong, Lanao del Sur over the weekend.
Sgt. Albert Magdayao of the 2nd Lanao del Sur Provincial Mobile Force Company died instantly from gunshot wounds while Cpl. Sonny Marohom was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Brig. Gen. John Guyguyon, Bangsamoro police director, said village officials and residents identified three of the more than 10 assailants as Aminola, Lani and Fahad, all surnamed Alilang.
Police said the Alilangs were implicated in several carjacking cases in the province as well as in nearby Zamboanga del Sur.
Magdayao and Marohom were part of a team of police officers that recovered a stolen vehicle in Barangay Pindulonan.
The team was on the way back to the town proper when the suspects attacked.
