Agusan village chief nabbed at LP rally

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – A barangay captain of this city was arrested during a campaign rally of the Liberal Party on Sunday for carrying a .45 caliber pistol.

Angelo Atupan, 50, of Narangay Babag, said he just wanted to congratulate Butuan City Mayor Ferdinand Amante Jr., who was on the stage with former congressman Roan Libarios and Councilor Virgilio Neri.

Police escorts and members of the civil security unit of the Butuan City municipal government said Atupan was drunk.

Atupan later admitted that he is supporting Amante’s rival, Ronnie Lagnada, who is running under the National Unity Party.
