Up close and personal

MANILA, Philippines – A quick look at the spring/summer runways will show you that the art of accessorizing is back in full swing. Thanks in part to the revival of maximalist style, fashion houses embraced a varied mix of accouterments this season, with shoulder-grazing earrings, transparent accents, graphic carry-ons, and eye-catching chokers making it to the top of the trending list. On the local front, however, it’s not so much about trends as it is about establishing a unique brand identity.

In fact, the goal is to separate your designs from the trends. The result is a burgeoning community of local accessory designers who’ve set themselves apart from the plethora of fast fashion options available in the market by focusing on quality, individuality, and craftsmanship. Bringing this to light are five homegrown independent labels that set the tone with their distinctive takes on accessory design, proving that ace accents mean more than just a finishing touch to your #ootds when done just right.
