The nightlife jury has spoken – sort off

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Remember when the weekdays were untouchable? When dinner and a movie was all that you could wrap your hands around before heading home and retiring to bed? #OLD. After all, there’s work the next day and you don’t wanna be zombie-walking, being a vegetable, and not performing at optimum level (Sorry, boss). Well, that’s hardly the case now, what with all the weekly events being thrown and promoted by top nightlife establishments in the metro. Yes, kids, a hangover is now possible midweek, leaving you with ample time to recover before the weekend. The Young STAR team turns “Nightlife Jury” and drops their two cents on how you can successfully break the week. #SHOTS

Slumber party tuesdays at Dillinger’s

Karen: I’ve never been to this one.

Toff: My friend Rav says that it’s some really happening Ladies’ Night with free lychee martinis and mainstream-meets-girly music from the likes of Kylie Minogue and Madonna. Of course, there’s our favorite, Nix Damn P!, DJ Eurik and DJ 420 aka Toby Panlilio tearing up the decks.

Ralph: The vibe there recalls a setting from Boardwalk Empire so don’t come in looking like you’re going to sleep, despite the name of the event. But don’t go all out pinstripe on this one, either.

Work sucks wednesdays at Le Ponticello

Toff: One word: #BOOKIT

Karen: It’s a good place for midweek drinking. Plus the P200 margherita pizzas don’t hurt either. Sometimes you can even play your own iPod!

Ralph: I only go for the puns. I mean, come on, MistleTOAST? And for my bro, Canchbro.

Toff: I mean come on, who can forget “When you’re going to TEF, the TEF gets going?” Ummm… Anyareh?!

Karen: I especially loved MOMOL (Monster Monster Lang). That was their Halloween party. I remember having so much fun.

Toff: Gotta love Ponti.

Terrazas at Aracama (wednesdays)

Toff: I really hate it when I miss happy hour. What? Can’t I have some dinner first?

Karen: What time is it?

Ralph: I just wanna hear some Duncan Sheik. ’90s daw eh.

Karen: Do they play the Spice Girls?

Toff: They play everything throwback according to Pam. Happy hour starts at 12 midnight. Pwede pa mag-dinner.

Play wednesdays at the Vault

Toff: I’ve always wanted to go but I’ve never had a chance. MikeCons who spins there on occasion says it’s really chill — a ‘90s throwback kind of thing.

Karen: A lot of ‘90s throwback going on on Wednesdays, huh?

Toff: Wednesday is my new favorite day because I’m trying to be hip-hop now. “B*tch don’t kill mah vibe.”

Ralph: What lyrics are those, man? Well, being a ‘90s kid, we’re partial to music that came out that time. But I hope I don’t hear any weird Alanis Morisette mash-ups.

Space camp thursdays at Rocket room

Ralph: I made the mistake of ordering girly drinks when I was there. Otherwise, I find it chill and extra sosy.

Toff: I wonder if they shot a scene of Sosy Problems there. Ngek.

Karen: If you’d like to avoid going out on a Friday night, then Space Camp Thursdays is your next best bet. The drinks are good (try the Girl with the Violet Eyes and the P35 beer), the music? Even better. Find all your conyo and hipster ambient needs here.

Toff: I was there last Thursday but Joey wasn’t spinning. Darn it. I caught him yesterday, though. I guess it’s an every other week thing for me. Ralph Mendoza, Karen Bolilia and Toff De Venecia
