Ride your luck in Year of the Horse at Crowne Plaza

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria kicks off the Year of the Horse filled with exuberance and renewed passion. Celebrate the significant tradition of bringing the family together this Chinese New Year with enticing room packages and lucky feasts.

Book and stay at Crowne Plaza for two consecutive nights until Feb. 13 and get as much as 25 percent off your room rate and 50 percent off on buffet breakfast at Seven Corners.

On Jan. 31, welcome the Year of the Horse with a timeless tradition as the lobby comes alive with beating drums, lion and dragon dance performance at 11 a.m.

Fill yourselves with auspicious entrees at Xin Tian Di from Jan. 30 to Feb. 13. Making the feast extra special is a Chinese delicacy called “Ang Ku Kueh,” also known as the Tortoise Cake, a small oval-shaped pastry with soft, sticky glutinous rice flour skin wrapped around a sweet filling. Its shape resembles a tortoise shell, believed to bring longevity and success.

This mini rice cake can be enjoyed either as a dessert or a savory dish. For sweet endings, it comes with four flavors: peanut, lotus cream, custard cream, and red bean. As a savory entrée, it is filled with seafood, meat, and vegetables.

Chinese Executive Chef Sam Lee also puts the limelight on skillfully handcrafted prosperity dim sum made with lucky ingredients. To name a few are Pork Siomai with Baby Abalone, “Ang Ku Kueh” (prawns encased with sticky rice cake), and deep-fried “Poh Pia”  (crispy mixed seafood with taosi). Each item represents an ingredient that brings happiness, wealth, and good fortune.

Complementing this unique offering is an elaborate set menu signifying abundance — Scallops with Abalone and Sea Moss, Yu Sheng Salad, and Steamed Cod Fish Fillet with Toaso. New Year set menu prices start at P4,800++.

Spread good fortune with Xin Tian Di’s famed fish-shaped “tikoy” available until Jan. 31 for only P498++. Toss the Yu Sheng Salad at home in small serving good for four to six persons at P988++ and large serving good for 10 to 12 persons at P1,888++, available from Jan. 30 to Feb. 13.
