The gift of mattress

MANILA, Philippines - The country’s leading foam manufacturer, Uratex, and lifestyle furniture store chain Our Home recently launched the “Best Mattress for Best Mom” promo in a simple yet chic event held at the newly renovated Our Home in V-Mall, Greenhills Shopping Center, San Juan City.

Motivational speaker Maricel Laxa hosted the event and a mini-fashion show was held with select mom-models, including Swedish-born actress Sandra Larsson, Sidney Loo, and Russian model Yulia Keltsova.

Designer Rajo Laurel talked about his signature premium mattress collection for Uratex, followed by product presentations from both Uratex and Our Home.

 â€œWe all know that mothers have tirelessly and unselfishly been giving themselves for their families and, of course, making the house a home. So now we dedicate to mothers a luxurious rest with our mattresses,” said Dindo Medina, corporate sales director of Uratex.

The show highlighted the Rajo Laurel mattress collection’s Trapunto and Scatola. Scatola, which means “box” in Italian, is a stylish three-fold futon that easily converts into an ottoman to become a seat, bedside table, footstool or table for snacks, games or TV time in just seconds. “When I design, it’s very personal. So I thought it would be better to do a smaller item that you can have it even with limited space,” Laurel said of his inspiration for such a unique mattress design.

Trapunto, meanwhile, is a specialty mattress for the aesthetically discerning and embodies luxury, support, comfort and a level of sophistication commonly likened with his celebrated fashion collections. Unlike the former, it’s already in existence even before Laurel made such a mattress for his collection exclusive only for Uratex brand. “What I did was essentially create the design with the lines, my signatures all over. I chose the color and the fabric, which is tencel,” he revealed on how Trapunto was born.

 â€œThe integrity of the design is there—I personally use it so that’s a good thing. And then the bed, I sleep on it. It’s not like you just sleep on a Rajo label; Uratex and I really sat through this and went through several revisions before we came up with the finished product.”
