CEBU, Philippines — A timely and relevant Mental Wellness Forum for parents, counselors, educators, office employees and students will be conducted by the Father of Child Psychiatry, Dr. Cornelio Banaag, and his fellow advocates of mental health. Happening on February 22 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Oakridge Pavilion in Mandaue City, Cebu, the forum will address the need for urgent public awareness on current issues about Mental Health.

Organized jointly by Project Sampaguita of Cebu and Families in ArT and Culture (FIAT) Inc. in Manila, the forum seeks to help and inspire those concerned and affected by mental health realities, especially children, that are growing in worrying numbers in Philippine society.

A mother, Sheila Guevarra Suntay, will talk about the importance of breaking stigma. Journalist and mental health advocate Alya Honasan will speak about her own experience with depression and what has helped her go through that journey.

A panel of facilitators, together with Dr. Banaag and the other speakers, will lead the question and answer portion for audience interaction.

The Mental Wellness Forum, well-received in Manila, continues to draw interest. Davao and Cebu, in tandem with FIAT, hopes to obtain such interest in this worthy public cause.

Project Sampaguita, organized in Cebu in 2014, seeks donations for direct beneficiaries of Banilad Center for Professional Development, a technical-vocational school for deserving but underprivileged young women, and Kalinangan Youth Foundation Inc. Lead, a leadership program for select university students.

Both are certified donee institutions, recognized by the Philippine Council for NGO Certification, serving the advocacy of poverty alleviation through holistic education and formation in leadership.

The organizers are grateful to the support of Oakridge Realty Development Corp. for providing the venue for the forum and to International Pharmaceuticals Inc. for the audiovisual equipment to be used for the program.
