Why Filipino moms are ‘pusong mamon’

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - While it takes a whole lot of effort and patience to face whining toddlers, demanding husbands, and cranky teenagers, mothers seem to transition smoothly from one role to another — with everything anchored on what’s best for the family, sometimes even at their own expense.

Moms today — take, for instance, Faith Fernandez-Aranton, Avon Philippines head of pr and communication; Maye Yao Co Say, Richwell Phils. Inc. chief operating officer; and Cathy Babao, children’s advocate, grief counselor, and journalist — have managed to pull off their superhero reputations. They have learned to draw the line between their soft spots and their tough exteriors if only so they can adapt to the changing needs of the Filipino family.

Prayer, planning, and prioritization are key for Cathy. “If you know what matters, everything is easy,” she reveals. Taking after her own mom, legendary actress Caridad Sanchez, Cathy knew she was going to be a very hands-on mother herself. “My mom put her career on hold for us while we were growing up. She rarely did films and only agreed to do television shows that required her to shoot just once a week,” she shares.

One can argue that some moms are tough-all-the-way, but how else can she manage to pull off years and years of selfless love if her heart was not made of all things warm and fluffy? It is the same pusong mamon that recognizes your needs without you having to say them; it is the reason behind her being your first line of defense and your last. She is the first to celebrate your triumphs, and the last woman standing in the midst of your defeat.

So, if there’s someone who deserves a treat, it’s the the modern nanay. Packed with the right amount of fluff and sweetness, the Monde Special Mamon complements our mothers who are all certified pusong mamon. Available in classic and mocha flavors and made from real fresh eggs and imported wheat flour and milk, this uniquely Pinoy creation can make any given day special.

Marla Buencamino, Monde Special Mamon brand associate, says, “Pusong mamon is a concept that fits today’s Filipino moms — women who project a tough and firm exterior, yet are really softies on the inside. We want Monde Special Mamon to be something that a child, a husband, or a friend can give a mom to show their appreciation, without a need for a specific occasion.”
