The 12 days of Bistro Christmas

OOH LA LAI - Lai S. Reyes - The Philippine Star

You know it’s almost Christmas when...your neighbor’s dog chases carolers down the street, when bibingka stalls crop up everywhere, and when your favorite restaurants start coming up with their holiday menu as early as November.

During the holidays, those who are passionate about all things yummy take this simple enjoyment of a good meal to a whole new level. To them, each meal must be elevated to deity status, so most restaurants in the metro cook up a barrage of dishes so delectable and decadent even the most discriminating palate would approve.

The Bistro Group has been top-of-mind for holiday get-togethers for years because they made it easy to fill Christmas tables with delicious food through Party Bundles that include appetizers, entrees and desserts  for 10, 20 persons and more.

And since a 12-course holiday dinner might be too much for your tummy to handle, The Bistro Group came up with a culinary spin on the famous Christmas ditty with their own “12 Days of Bistro Christmas,” a foodie guide on where to hold family reunions and corporate parties this Christmas.

1. TGIFRIDAY’S

With fully stocked bars and famous flair bartenders, TGIFriday’s is indeed the perfect venue for those who want to eat, drink and be merry especially with three party packages to choose from. Make sure to include Friday’s Baby Back Ribs, the star of TGIFriday’s feast.

2. ITALIANNI’S

Italianni’s tagline “Amore di Merrier” is so apt for the holidays. In here, meals are big enough to share. Check out the Merry Bundles good for three persons. And since an Italian meal isn’t complete without pasta, splurge on Shrimp Fra Diablo, a classic favorite.

3. Fish & Co.

Fish & Co. doesn't disappoint seafood lovers with its party bundles enough for 10 persons and more. Palate pleasers include its best-selling Fish and Chips.

4. FLAPJACKS

Flapjacks proves it's more than just a pancake place with its wide variety of food choices such as the Cajun-spiced pork chop and hash brown burger. Why not organize a Flapjacks pancake-themed Christmas party? This promises to be a fun gathering when guests are in their comfiest pajamas.

5. KRAZY GARLIK

Forget about garlic breath when you dine at Krazy Garlik. Whole or chopped, quickly sauteed or slowly roasted, robust or gentle, this amazing spice can make the flavor of any dish pop just like its 40 Kloves Chicken – and yes, even desserts!

6. BULGOGI BROTHERS

Bulgogi Brothers is the heart and Seoul of Korean food in the metro. Here, diners can feast on different kinds of bulgogi dishes, cooked right on your table. One of the stars of the menu  is the Premium Boneless Short Ribs. Savor this dish along with your other favorites included in the party bundles.

7. VILLAGE TAVERN

Classic American food is what Village Tavern takes pride in. Here, you can have steaks, burger and pizza over a glass of wine in a rustic but elegant tavern setting. A crowd-drawer anytime of the day is the  Cowboy Burger packed  with a juicy burger patty, applewood-smoked bacon, cheddar cheese with onions and barbecue sauce.

8. WATAMI JAPANESE CASUAL RESTAURANT

Watami serves authentic Japanese food in a casual environment at great price value. There’s definitely something for everyone — from sushi, sashimi, sukiyaki and hot pots to assorted skewers and seafood dishes.  Rice to the occasion with a bowl of its best-selling Beef Pepper Rice in Stone Pot.

9. MODERN SHANGHAI

Xiao long bao, the soup-in-a-dimsum treat, is a Taiwanese delicacy but I fell in love with it in a restaurant that serves Shanghainese cuisine — Modern Shanghai. Whether you want to discover what Shanghainese cuisine is all about or rediscover well-loved Chinese dishes with a twist, Modern Shanghai is always a welcome surprise.

10. TONKATSU BY TERRAZAWA

As its name suggests, tonkatsu is the specialty at Tonkatsu by Terazawa, the first Philippine franchise of the Japan-based chain. Its crowning glory is the Kurobuta Rosu Katsu, a premium deep-fried black pork loin from the pure oriental strains of black Berkshire hogs, touted as the finest quality of pork in the world.

11. SIKLAB

Siklab is The Bistro Group’s homegrown restaurant concept that is sure to rekindle one’s appetite for Filipino cuisine. All-time favorites and unique Filipino dishes are served with interesting twists, with their taste still traditionally Filipino. The succulent Chicken Barbecue, with its sweet and tangy taste will delight you bite after bite.  Siklab is  the perfect place to host your balikbayan friends and barkada this Christmas.

12. BISTRO GIFT CERTIFICATES

If you are still undecided as to which Bistro restaurant to hold your Holiday get-togethers, The Bistro Group also offers its gift certificates you can use in all of its 11 restaurant concepts with 50 stores all over.  They also make for the perfect gift any foodie would love.  Available in P250, P500 and P1000 denominations.
