Party time, Zonta-style

- Honey Jarque Loop -

Whenever natural calamities and man-induced disasters occur on the island, whether earthquakes, typhoons, landslides, floods and fires, the Zonta Clubs of Cebu 1 and 2 unselfishly lend their support to the various government agencies.

In times of dire need, these passionate Cebuano Zontians heed the call ever-ready with clothing and blankets, slippers and shoes, food and medicines and even light building materials to enable the victims to begin a new life.

In addition to being of service during such unfortunate moments, the clubs’ have assisted in uplifting the status of women and lives of children in their respective communities.

They address relevant issues of gender violence hampering the achievement of equality and as expected its empowerment.

In Cebu they have provided much-needed shelter for abused wives of domestic violence. Toddlers and children are the recipients of free medical services in cooperation with hospitals and clinics all over the city and some neighboring towns of the province. School supplies, educational toys and books for young readers are periodically distributed in the hope to lead them away from possible trouble in death threatening drug and perhaps life long vices.

Recently the Zonta ladies hosted a dinner fellowship for almost a hundred delegates to the International Women for Grass Roots Academy at the prestigious Cebu Country Club.

Members and guests came in colorful international costumes as shown in this spread to highlight the commemoration and celebration of the United Nations Day.

The University of San Jose Recoletos Dramatics and Cultural Ensemble all scholars of philanthropist Amparito Lhuillier performed a fabulous song and dance number conceptualized and directed by civic leader and truly dedicated educator Mila Espina.
