Expert skin care is now just a click away!

MANILA, Philippines - It's time to wake up from your skin nightmare!

According to a GSK Skin Health Asia Pacific Consumer Report in 2014, 71 percent and 61 percent of Filipinas have sensitive face and body skin, respectively. And as much as we hate to admit it, bad skin days affect our overall well-being in many ways.

This may be the reason why these days, taking good care of our skin is not just seen as form of vanity, but rather a necessity. After all, nourishing our body from within is equally important as taking care of what's outside.
According to Google Trends, searches related to skin care have been steadily rising over recent years, as more and more people turn to the Internet when looking for solutions to skin concerns.

Motivated by the idea that there are not many reliable, reader-friendly and accurate websites that feed information about skincare, the savoir-faire authorities on skin, together with Unilever and Philippine Dermatological Society created SkinMatters.com.ph, the first ever website dedicated to skin care.

"We partnered with the PDS to come up with articles that are more reader-friendly but at the same time credible. We talked to Google so that they can feed us with  information about what the consumers are looking for and how we can answer their specific skin concerns," explains Beauty Blogger and SkinMatters.com EIC, Nicole Romero during the intimate gathering event held in SM Aura on November 10.

Romero also asserted that unlike other beauty websites, which focus more on product offerings, their website is dedicated on providing information about the right ingredients that make up a good solution.

In her own words, "We do not feed products, but teach about ingredients."

Romero also revealed at the website's launch that acne is one of the biggest concerns of users visiting their website.

There are many reasons why people get breakouts. Acne is multifactorial, which means there are internal and external factors that trigger its growth - genetics and oral medications, hormonal changes, hygiene and poor habits.

There is no quick fix for acne, but with the right information and proper habits, you can avoid exacerbating it and avoid getting future breakouts.

Here are some few tips we learned from Romero:

  1. Wash you face with a product that has salicylic acid to prevent future breakouts. Salicylic acid is an ingredient that has the ability to remove excess oil from your skin. It also works as an exfoliant as it penetrates the skin better.
  2. Do not go to bed without removing your makeup.
  3. Do not forget to use moisturizers and SPF protection.
  4. Always keep your body hydrated.
  5. Get enough sleep. The ideal time to go under the covers is from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

“The website will be curated to remind our readers about the importance of taking care of their skin,” Romero explains.

Aside from articles that offer tips and information about skin problems, the website also features an "ask a derma" section where users can directly communicate with  licensed dermatologist to ask about any skin concerns for free.
