‘Art MADE Public’ at SM Lanang Premier
MANILA, Philippines - SM and Metrobank Foundation, in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Committee on Architecture and Design, present “Art Made Public,†which is slated from March 20 to 26 at SM Lanang Premier in Davao City.
The show features select winning artworks of the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence Competition (MADE) from 1984 to 2013.
Started in 1984 by Metrobank Foundation, MADE is a competition in painting, sculpture, interior design and architecture aimed to promote Philippine art and launch the careers of its winners.
The painting competition is divided into two categories: oil on canvas and water media on paper. It is open to all Filipino artists ages 18 to 35 who have not held a solo exhibition, and will eventually receive an additional grant support for the conduct of their first solo exhibition once they become a winner. For the sculpture competition, practicing sculptors who have already held a solo exhibition in sculpture are qualified to join. Aspiring group of two four young licensed Filipino architects ages 25-50 and licensed Filipino interior designers ages 25 to 45, on the other hand, are encouraged to join the architecture and interior design competitions. Winners will each receive a cash prize of three hundred thousand pesos (P300,000) each for painting, sculpture and interior design competitions and the winning team for the architecture competition will receive P300,000 for the team.
In an effort to reach out to a wider range of audience and bring art closer to the public, “Art MADE Public†had its successful run at SM Aura Premier, The Block at SM City North Edsa, SM City Iloilo, and SM City Cagayan de Oro. The exhibit opening held recently at SM Aura also featured the launch of Master Builders: Pioneers of 20th Century Philippine Architecture and Allied Arts and A Pioneer and Modernist Iconoclast: The Architectural Legacy of Pablo S. Antonio authored by Dr. Gerard Lico, head of NCCA’s Committee on Architecture and Design.
