HRM scholarships to be awarded at Abé Museum opening

-

MANILA, Philippines - Two high school students from Magalang, Pampanga will be awarded scholarships by the E. Aguilar Cruz Foundation to a Hotel and Restaurant Management course at the Pampanga Agricultural College.

The names of the chosen scholars will be announced during the opening of the E Aguilar Cruz (EAC) Museum on May 22 at Abé’s Farm, located at the foothills of Mt. Arayat in Magalang, Pampanga.

The EAC Museum which is also referred to as Abé Museum presents collections on the lives of E. Aguilar Cruz, Abé to his friends, and his son, Larry J. Cruz, founder of the LJC Group of Restaurants. Abé’s artworks, furniture collection, memorabilia and writing instruments are on view. Books from Larry’s collection are on display. There is also a video room, which will screen features on the lives of Abé and Larry.

Abé was constantly fascinated by Mt. Arayat and the Magalang countryside. Throughout his life, he has been returning to these themes in his canvases. Artworks dating from his youth to his later works, detailing the countryside around Mt. Arayat, as well as portraits of the Cruz family, are featured at the museum.

The museum also pays tribute to his career as a writer and newspaperman, artist and bon vivant, as well as his stint as UNESCO ambassador during the late ’70s.

The museum also has a section detailing the achievements of LJC founder Larry J. Cruz. It focuses on his years as a newspaperman and broadcast journalist, Press undersecretary and BNFI head, and publisher of Metro magazine. His contributions to the Philippine hospitality industry, as well as a detailed description of the restaurants he opened under the LJC Chain, will also be documented.

The E. Aguilar Cruz Foundation is awarding the scholarships with the view of honing the innate talent of the youth of Magalang, Pampanga. It is the Foundation’s way of giving back to the community.

The scholarships will be awarded to two high school students from schools based in Magalang, Pampanga. The students’ families should have an annual income of not more than P100,000. The students must have an average scholastic standing of at least 85 percent and a grade in conduct of at least 85 percent. All applicants must pass the collegiate entrance examinations of Pampanga Agricultural College and the average standing required for the course on Hotel and Restaurant Management.
