A salute to SM Men's Fashion

- Luis Espiritu Jr. -

MANILA, Philippines - Today marks the end of this season’s Philippine Fashion Week. Throughout the past week, trends for Holiday 2011 and glimpses of Summer 2012 were shown. A milestone in local menswear retail fashion happened last Oct. 26 as SM Men’s Fashion presented its first solo show at the Hall 2 of SMX Convention Center.

SM Men’s Fashion took the spotlight with a successful jam-packed event, taking menswear retail to the forefront of local fashion. Capturing the essence and aesthetics of menswear fashion, the overall theme was about “modern tailoring” channeled in a variety of current style narratives. Unveiled that night was a refreshing and forward take on seamless made-to-measure appeal as seen on a range of on-the-radar jackets, suits, coats and separates. Fearless trendsetting style unfolded with the season’s most wanted pieces as models paraded the runway in graphic tees, metallics, black and white prints, leather, modern fall hues and tailoring. Overwhelming the scene was a massive cast of more than a hundred of the most sought-after male models in the country led by the face of SM Men’s fashion — Hideo Muraoka and Benjamin Tang. One of the major highlights of the evening was the appearance of women in menswear.

Surprising the crowd with delight in sleek chic formalities were Manila’s top female models in tuxedos including style icon/photographer Jo Ann Bitagcol.

Energy soared with the formal launching of SM Men’s Fashion’s sportswear line Bo Athletics led by one of the country’s hottest and most in demand actor — Derek Ramsay. Captivating the audience in wonder was a shadow dancing and action packed anime presentation followed by style march of models, UAAP athletes and team SOCCEROO.

The show ended on a high note with an outstanding display of coloration and trendsetting forecast of Spring-Summer 2012. Inspired by the latest French and Italian menswear collections, SM Men’s Fashion presented ethnic prints, pastel hues and casual tailoring in an impeccable adaptation of modern European style. The up-to-date look showcased a clear point of view of local ready-to-wear that’s going global.

Breaking the boundaries of classic menswear retail in the Philippines, the astounding success of SM Men’s Fashion at Philippine Fashion Week is an insight into the growing and strong presence of menswear in the local style landscape. SM, a pillar and institution in the industry, triumphs in celebrating modern dressing and making a mark for men’s fashion.
