MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area (LPA) has been spotted outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) and is seen to enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The LPA was detected at 2,560 kilometers east northeast of extreme Northern Luzon at 3 p.m. yesterday, PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres said.

While it has a “high chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours,” PAGASA noted the weather disturbance would unlikely enter PAR and would not affect the country.

Meanwhile, the LPA-enhanced monsoon is expected to bring clouds and rains in most parts of the country today.
