Policeman killed in leftist rebel attack in Bukidnon

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - A policeman was killed and three others were wounded after members of the leftist rebel group New People's Army (NPA) raided a town police station in the southern Philippine province of Bukidnon this morning, military officials said.

Capt. Christian Uy, spokesman of the Philippine military's 4th Infantry Division, said leftist rebels in military uniforms and carrying high-powered firearms attacked the Kibawe police station.

"(The NPAs) outnumbered the policemen manning the station. The attack lasted for about 20 minutes," Uy said.

He said leftist rebels were able to cart away seven M-16 rifles and three 9-millimeter pistols.
