3 killed in Cavite village explosion
At least three people were killed when a suspected storage of dynamite used in illegal fishing exploded in a subdivision in Bacoor City, Cavite yesterday afternoon.
Senior Superintendent Fidel Posadas, chief of the Cavite provincial police, said the explosion which took place at 4:15 p.m. yesterday also ripped houses in Anthurium Street, Phase V, Camella Sorrento Homes in Barangay Panapaan.
Posadas said they have not yet identified the fatalities.
The house which exploded had been converted into a bomb factory manufacturing dynamite, according to information passed to The STAR.
Senior Superintendent Mark Edison Belarma, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Region 4A chief said they have recovered blasting caps at the site.
In an interview over dzBB, Posadas said six residential houses were damaged.
“The explosion was very powerful. The initial reports we got were that the explosion disrupted traffic in the area,” Posadas added.
He said the explosion took place while all the police officials of the Calabarzon were attending the turnover ceremony of the leadership of Police Regional Office 4A from Chief Superintendent Nicasio Radovan to Chief Superintendent Ricardo Padilla. – Cecille Suerte Felipe, Arnell Ozaeta, AFP
