Nadine Lustre on LDR with beau: 'It really does work out'

MANILA, Philippines — Nadine Lustre said her long-distance relationship setup with boyfriend Christophe Bariou works because they both value space and understand each other's priorities.
For the award-winning actress, the dynamic between her and Christophe remains healthy and harmonious even if they do not see each other regularly.
Nadine said she and her partner understand each other's priorities in life and in their respective careers.
"I love space. He loves having space for himself and I love having space for myself because when we are not together, those are the times when we work on ourselves. We discover new things about ourselves," Nadine said on Kylie Verzosa's "Almost Honest" podcast.
Nadine said individual experiences and opportunities for self-discovery can be healthy in a relationship.
"Para kang nag-solo adventure and then babalik ka, you will come home, babalitaan mo siya, 'I bring you here. I discovered this new spot,' ganyan. 'I learned something new.' Which is nice because there are things that you discover about yourself, or that you discover that you won't probably discover if you're with your partner," she said.
"And that is not a bad thing. People kasi think na parang kailangan together kayo all the time. From the very beginning pa lang we already know si Chris really, his life is really in Siargao, ako talaga Manila. But it works out eh. It really does. The thing is, if you are in the right relationship, it's going to be effortless," she added.
Asked what she learned from Christophe that helped her become a better person, Nadine said: "Self-love because he knows that I work hard, like I really grind, that's how I am."
"That I forget to take care of myself, that I forget to have time for myself. He's the one who reminds me to slow down, stretch, ganu'n siya. 'Did you work out? Did you get to read a book?' Ganu'n siya," she added.
